Overview

The County of Volusia is seeking a Revenue Specialist I, located in the Treasury and Billing Division in DeLand. This position will perform entry level clerical, customer service and cashiering work with the general public, local businesses, local governments, state and federal agencies and internal county departments. Candidate must have customer service and interpersonal skills and must be comfortable processing information with a computer system, to include the ability to navigate multiple computer screens.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains daily contact with the public in person, online, over the phone and by mail, responding to questions on a wide range of revenue collection topics in a cordial and professional manner.
  • Reviews, understands and interprets documents for compliance with Florida Statutes, county ordinances, and division policies and procedures.
  • Operates multiple software applications related to assigned duties.
  • Serves as the cashier by processing various payments from the public as well as payments from other county offices.
  • Calculates and collects proper fees for all transactions.
  • Ensures funds are posted to the appropriate account.
  • Processes new account applications and closure requests for Tourist/Convention Development Tax customers.
  • Processes payments via high-speed processor.
  • Maintains files in proper order for efficient retrieval.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.

Having met the minimum requirements, the preferred applicant will have at least one (1) year of cash handling as a major job duty and, a minimum of two (2) years face to face, front line customer service experience in a fast paced work environment and two (2) years of computer experience (For example, entering and retrieving data, navigating multiple computer screens). Candidate must have a stable work history.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of hire.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations with reasonable speed.
  • Ability to pleasantly serve the public and answer basic questions relating to the operation of the unit.
  • Ability to handle multiple software applications simultaneously and with ease.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and commercial arithmetic.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Skilled in the operation of computers, calculators, and business machines with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of various forms of payment (e.g. cash, check, credit, debit)
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
