Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking Revenue Examiners to enforce revenue laws within jurisdiction. You will inspect businesses and residences, determine tax liabilities, licenses, and related information, and handle applications for licenses and permits.

TARGET CLOSE DATE: 10/16/2026 PAY GRADE: Grade 18
Revenue Examiners are responsible for enforcing the City/County/State revenue laws within their jurisdictions. Employees in this position inspect businesses and residences in assigned territories to determine business classification, tax liability, appropriate licensures, and other revenue-related information. Revenue Examiners process various business operation applications (e.g., business licenses, special event permits) and collect relevant taxes (e.g., occupation tax, liquor tax, ad valorem tax, lease tax, lodging tax).

Applications for this position will be considered for the following Merit System employing agencies. The pay range for this job varies depending upon the Merit System employing agency.
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs. May involve the ability to walk on unstable ground (e.g., loose dirt at construction sites).
Work is conducted both indoors in an office setting as well as during regular field visits to external places of business. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
