Hanover County Government is seeking an Revenue Collections Agent to perform investigative and office work collecting delinquent personal property, real estate, state taxes, dog license fees and returned checks for county departments.
The role involves analyzing difficult tax accounts, appearing in court to obtain judgments, assisting taxpayers with payment plans and enforcing payment of delinquent taxes, while maintaining accurate records and correspondence.
This is an administrative position. The incumbent performs investigative and follow-up field and office work in collecting current and delinquent personal property and real estate taxes, State income taxes, dog license fees and returned checks and collections for various County Departments.
The Revenue Collections Agent reports to a Business Manager and supervises no staff.
Ability to interact positively with the public is required. General knowledge of the laws pertaining to the collection of delinquent accounts. Excellent oral and written communication skills. General computer literacy or skills preferably in Microsoft Office computer programs is desired. Basic knowledge of records maintenance and ability to maintain general office records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees and the general public.
High school or equivalent required with at least two (2) years’ customer service experience preferred – OR – Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
