Job summary

UL Solutions in Northbrook, IL is seeking a Revenue Accounting Manager to ensure the integrity of our revenue accounting, provide policy expertise, and lead process improvements. The role partners with business operations and cross-functional teams—sales, legal, and finance—and oversees ASC 606 compliance, order-to-revenue governance, and the monthly close.

A university degree in accounting or finance with CPA and strong US GAAP knowledge are required; leadership experience and ability to drive

Responsibilities

• Be global revenue accounting lead, partnering with business teams and driving process improvements.
• Manages the performance of direct reports by setting objectives, coaching and providing guidance.
• Ensure revenue recognition policies conform to ASC 606 and US GAAP in income statement and balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain governance over Order-to-Revenue processes.
• Manage monthly and quarterly revenue close with accurate and timely results.
• Review customer contracts for revenue implications and standardize contracts with Sales.
• Ensure SOX 404 compliance related to revenue recognition.
• Provide revenue recognition training to cross-functional organizations.
• Assist external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews.

Job description

The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Company's revenue accounting by providing accounting expertise, and a strong desire to improve processes and controls.

The position reports to the Revenue Accounting Senior Manager and is accountable for supporting all accounting policy responsibilities, including documentation and oversight of the application of UL's revenue accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP.

This position involves a partnership with all of ULS’s business operations and an understanding of:

• UL's diverse types of revenue,
• the contracts that govern our services,
• our operational processes for orders, the fulfillment of work, and our invoicing processes.

The position has interactions and dependencies with corporate accounting, business leads, legal team, and management.

This is a full-time, hybrid (3 days in office) position located at Northbrook, IL.

Responsibilities

• Be global revenue accounting lead, including partnering with our business teams and being an agent of change to continuously improve the integrity of our operational processes.
• Manages the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all policies are understood and followed.
• Ensure revenue recognition policies and procedures for UL's income statement and balance sheet accounts are in conformance with ASC 606, U.S. GAAP, other pertinent authoritative literature, and the Company's established policies. Including deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, accounts receivable, and allowance for doubtful accounts and how these items are described in the financial statements and footnotes of our financials.
• Maintaining governance over the Order-to-Revenue processes.
• Manage the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, including assurance of accurate and timely results.
• Review customer contracts for revenue recognition implications and work with Sales teams, support standardization of contracts, and the business on understanding implications of and structuring of non-standard contracts.
• Responsible for complying with Sarbanes-Oxley section 404 requirement as related to revenue recognition and ownership of the narrative and key controls
• Provide revenue recognition guidance and training to cross-functional organizations, including sales, legal, accounting/finance.
• Work with external auditors helping them through the annual audit and quarterly reviews.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• At least 5 years directly related experience, including:
  • Minimum of 3 years public accounting experience (preferably with Big 4 accounting firm)
• Active US CPA required
• Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP
• Experience in software and professional services industries is a plus
• Self-motivated individual that can adapt to changing environments

• The estimated salary range for this position is $110,000- $130,000
• This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary
