Job summary

JJ’s Mercantile at Sorrel River Ranch Resort & Spa in Utah seeks a hands-on Retail Store Manager to lead the team, welcome guests, and drive sales. You’ll manage schedules, stock, inventory, and vendor relations while delivering the renowned Sorrel hospitality.

You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, bring strong leadership, and ensure exceptional guest experiences across retail, food, and essentials. Starting pay is based on experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of retail experience with leadership experience preferred.
• Strong purchasing and vendor-management experience.
• Hospitality, front-of-house, and/or kitchen experience is a major plus.
• A professional, polished, and approachable presence.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

• Be the friendly, welcoming face of JJ’s Mercantile and create memorable guest interactions.
• Lead, support, and motivate the retail team while creating a positive, energetic work environment.
• Manage schedules and daily responsibilities for front-of-house retail staff.
• Assist guests with questions, recommendations, and purchases across retail, food, clothing, gifts, and essentials.
• Help drive sales and bring the JJ’s and Sorrel brands to life through genuine customer connections.
• Keep shelves stocked, displays looking great, inventory organized, and the store guest-ready.
• Manage inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and supply orders.
• Oversee sales and presentation of Grab-N-Go offerings.
• Help with food preparation and packaging as needed.
• Handle customer requests and complaints with professionalism.
• Troubleshoot unexpected situations calmly and confidently.

The Role

As Retail Store Manager, you’ll be the heart and personality of JJ’s Mercantile. You’ll lead the store team, welcome guests, drive sales, keep the shelves stocked and the store looking great, and make sure every person who walks through the door gets the warm, genuine hospitality Sorrel is known for.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves people, retail, food, and a little bit of controlled chaos. You’ll move between customer service, team leadership, inventory, Grab-N-Go food, and day-to-day operations while helping JJ’s continue to grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assist guests with questions, recommendations, and purchases across retail, food, clothing, gifts, and essentials.
• Help drive sales and bring the JJ’s and Sorrel brands to life through genuine customer connections.
• Keep shelves stocked, displays looking great, inventory organized, and the store clean and guest-ready.
• Manage inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and supply orders.
• Oversee sales and presentation of our upscale Grab-N-Go offerings, including sandwiches, salads, wraps, pastries, desserts, and more.
• Help with food preparation and packaging as needed, including wrapping, labeling, pricing, and stocking products.
• Handle customer requests and complaints with professionalism and a solutions-focused attitude.
• Troubleshoot unexpected situations and emergencies calmly and confidently.
• Monitor store budgets and help identify ways to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Ensure company policies, security procedures, and service standards are followed.
• Work closely with the broader Sorrel team and jump in wherever needed.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a hands-on hospitality leader who knows how to run a retail operation while making people feel genuinely welcome.

You’ll Ideally Have

• 3+ years of retail experience, with leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Strong purchasing and vendor-management experience.
• Hospitality, front-of-house, and/or kitchen experience is a major plus.
• A results-driven, team-focused leadership style.
• A professional, polished, and approachable presence.
• Strong sales instincts and the ability to confidently represent and sell private-label products.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Strong organization, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• A high level of integrity and professionalism.
• A high school diploma; additional education or certification is a plus.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• A flexible, confident, and personable approach.
• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

• Valid Utah Food Handler’s Card.
• Valid alcohol-serving permit.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
• Ability to pass required background, drug-screen, and reference checks.
