Job Summary

PetSmart’s Store Leader oversees the safety of people and pets, the pet parent experience, operational execution, financial outcomes, and all human resource functions within the store. This role provides exemplary leadership by driving company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service, and ensuring efficient daily store operations while upholding PetSmart's vision, mission, values, and strategy.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership
  • Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating staff.
  • Fostering an open-door culture, engaging with associates, and leveraging tools to listen to feedback.
  • Creating and managing staff schedules.
  • Supporting associate development through reviews, recognition, training, onboarding, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Delegating effectively, empowering others, and encouraging ownership.
  • Communicating priorities and responding to environment changes.
  • Addressing associate complaints and grievances.
  • Recognizing and celebrating team engagement.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of associate reviews.
Overall Store Experience
  • Leading the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring safety and health of pets.
  • Handling pet parent concerns and building a positive store environment.
  • Evaluating and improving store operations and services.
  • Partnering with local groups for community events.
  • Maintaining store standards and compliance with policies and ethics.
  • Conducting safety and policy validation walks.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for staff, pets, and visitors.
  • Managing inventory levels and communicating business objectives.
  • Monitoring safety practices via store cameras and taking corrective actions.
  • Responding promptly to incidents involving sick or injured pets.
Business Management
  • Executing corporate strategies and profitability goals.
  • Analyzing reports, identifying issues, and creating improvement plans.
  • Driving business growth and achieving sales and shrink targets.
  • Managing expenses and store metrics.
  • Collaborating with home office and managing store-related tasks and reports.
Qualifications
  • 4-6 years of retail leadership or customer-focused experience.
  • Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Proficiency with computer applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain composure.
Supervisory Responsibility

Typically overseeing Experience and Process Leaders, up to six lead associates, and 10-70 non-leader associates, following PetSmart policies.

Physical Demands & Environment

Standing, walking, climbing, handling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly; occasional team lifts over 100 pounds. Exposure to mechanical parts, pet hair, moderate noise, and live animals. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
