Position Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of a Girl Scouts Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) regional retail store selling Girl Scout merchandise to Troop Leaders and parents, including sales productivity, inventory management and following merchandise presentation guidelines. Ensures the store is inviting, clean and well stocked with product, and provides excellent customer service in accordance with GSGLA expectations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides pleasant and professional interaction with customers via phone, email, and in-person.
- Accountable for driving business into your store. Such as creating external emails regularly to our membership inviting them to shop in our stores.
- Promotes the Girl Scout Leadership experience and motivates girls and parents to expand their participation.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of merchandise as it relates to the Program levels and to answer volunteers’ questions.
- Based on Girl Scout level and experiences wanted, will advise, and educate our membership customers on the National Girl Scout Program and available relevant merchandise in-stores and online. Be able to build sales by suggestive selling items.
- Pulls requested merchandise, processes, and completes small and large customer orders for in-store pick up or shipping.
- Receives payment in specific forms, operates Point of Sale system and card processor machines, and makes changes as appropriate; and reports completed as scheduled.
- Performs supervisory duties including interviewing applicants for employment, providing training and guidance to develop store staff, scheduling staff to ensure coverage during all open business hours and for special events, collaborates with staff to identify and resolve problems, reviews performance and recommends discipline, as necessary.
- Updates salesclerk on business performance, new program, products, sale opportunities and seasonal GSGLA council own promotions and events.
- Responsible to maximize floor presentations with product reflecting Girl Scout seasonal activities. Utilizes product placement techniques to encourage additional sales.
- Ensures the store and stockroom are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
- Practice and maintain physical inventory control methods for all merchandise needed to support customer sales using GSGLA software systems.
- Accurate counting in and receiving in of merchandise shipments.
- Complete cycle counts as scheduled or requested; researches and resolves discrepancies; practices inventory transactions in accordance with procedures; including purchase order receipts, sales, returns and transfers.
- Plans for and participates in annual physical inventory counts, as needed.
- Participates in periodic conference calls and meetings with the Retail Team to discuss and develop pertinent retail information and sales strategies.
- Adhere to and supports Retail policies and procedures.
- May perform any or all the duties of a store salesclerk position.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, and standing and walking throughout the facilities for long periods in certain circumstances and dependent upon the fluctuating customer service/operational needs.
- Ability to travel via personal vehicle or public transportation to various facilities throughout the region.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically, to include the ability to move boxes related to merchandise deliveries and stockroom organization.
- May need to use a step stool or climb a ladder due to merchandising in-store and stockroom maintenance.
- Able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of themself or others.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience
- GED or High School diploma required. Some college experience is preferred.
- Experience and training in basic supervisory skills sufficient to manage one to two part-time salesclerks and to coordinate high volume events and promotions.
- Knowledge of Girl Scouting is highly desirable.
