Job description

Your Role...

By exhibiting exceptional teamwork, boundless curiosity, and the utmost care, the General Manager will lead their team to fulfill Blick’s commitment to our customers, the Arts, and our local communities. Responsibilities include:

  1. Supervise the Assistant Manager(s), Key Holder(s), Receiver, Framer (if on staff), and Sales Associates; train and develop store management in all aspects of the business; direct and monitor training and development for all associates; continually evaluate and react to performance issues; and actively recruit, interview, and hire management and associate candidates.
  2. Contact and meet with current and potential House Account customers regularly, process House Account orders, and maintain and develop customer relationships as outlined by the National Sales Manager.
  3. Drive revenue by ensuring associates provide outstanding customer service, helpful product knowledge, and build individual customer relationships while handling all customer contacts in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  4. Regularly review and monitor all aspects of inventory management including Vendor Direct Orders, Special Orders, Min/Max changes, PDA Adjustments, Weekly Cycle Counts, Store to Store transfers, returns to D.C., RTVs, shipment processing, and shipping discrepancies.
  5. Maintain a routine of maintenance and housekeeping to ensure safety of associates, customers, and protection of company assets.
  6. Plan and coordinate merchandise setups, visual compliance, promotional signage, layout changes, and maintain the store as set forth by Blick Management.
  7. Supervise shifts, including opening and closing the store, managing payroll, creating weekly schedules, and assigning staff tasks and duties daily.
  8. Provide input to the District Manager regarding customer needs, new products, competition, and pricing.
  9. Implement local marketing initiatives at the store level while ensuring compliance with National Marketing programs.
  10. Understand and manage the store's financial performance, including controlling shrink, expenses, and payroll, utilizing the annual budget and monthly Profit & Loss statements.
  11. Process inter-company communications, bills, and payroll reports timely.
  12. Ensure compliance with all Dick Blick Company Policies and Procedures, loss prevention initiatives, and operational controls.
General Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to relocate for future opportunities if required.
  • Availability to work at least two nights per week, including closing on Friday and Saturday, and at least one Sunday per accounting period.
  • Flexible schedule including day/evening shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Directly supervise at least two full-time associates and oversee all personnel in the store, providing leadership to the team.
Physical Demands:
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds using proper techniques and safety rules.
  • Prolonged walking, standing, and ladder climbing.
Travel:
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel expected.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma required; college preferred but not mandatory.
  • Minimum three years retail management experience or one year employment with Blick.
  • Proven superior sales performance.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and supervise staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay Range:

$70,000 - $75,000 annually plus sales incentives. Pay ranges may vary by location.
