Job summary

Banner Staffing Services-AZ is seeking a pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care in retail/outpatient settings. You’ll dispense prescriptions accurately, counsel patients, and coordinate with practitioners to ensure proper medication use.

You will supervise pharmacy technicians, manage workflow, and ensure compliance with regulations. The role requires overseeing procurement, storage, and monitoring of medications.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy licensure in the state of practice; AZ Wallet Card at hire.
  • Immunization certification/licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and computer skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with staff, physicians, patients, and others.
  • Proficiency with medication management info systems and Microsoft apps.
  • Driver’s license not required for Banner duties.

Employment Details

Registry/Per Diem positions do not have guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package is offered. Completion of post‑offer occupational health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (including employment, criminal and education) is required.

Position Summary

This position provides pharmaceutical care in the retail, outpatient setting. Responsible for the accurate dispensing of prescription medication from the pharmacy and maintaining records according to state and federal regulations. Provides counseling, consultation with other practitioners, family members, and caregivers to help ensure medication dispensed is ordered and used appropriately and effectively. Oversees the activities of the pharmacy technicians, coordinates workflow and verifies all medications prior to being dispensed. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served. Adheres to local, state, and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice.

Core Functions
  1. Fills prescriptions accurately and timely. Reviews and verifies or enters orders into the medication management information system, ensuring no significant problems such as drug interactions, incompatibilities, therapeutic duplications or patient safety. Performs immunization administration upon patient request.
  2. Supervises and directs work of pharmacy technicians, coordinating medication preparation and distribution, and ensuring accuracy prior to dispensing.
  3. Provides counseling to patients, families, or caregivers regarding their medications, supporting appropriate and effective drug use. Gives accurate, timely information to physicians, nurses, patients and others regarding medication therapy, drug product guidelines, regulations, formulary, and related topics.
  4. Supervises day‑to‑day pharmacy operations, including inventory maintenance, interactions with insurance companies, and accurate record keeping.
  5. Consults with prescribing practitioners to ensure accurate medication use, reviewing orders and evaluating their appropriateness and completeness. Contacts prescriber with suggestions for improvement and resolves problems with medication orders.
  6. Oversees all aspects of medication use: selection, procurement and storage, dispensing, monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Pharmacy licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. (Arizona: must provide AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.)
  • Immunization certification and/or licensure in the state of practice required within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS card.
  • Good organizational, problem‑solving and computer skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
  • Proficiency with computer software, especially medication management information system and Microsoft applications.
  • Valid driver’s license not required; not eligible to drive on behalf of Banner nor required for auto insurance coverage.
