Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Part-Time Campus Store Team Member to deliver exceptional customer service and support daily operations at the campus store. You will greet customers, help locate materials, and process transactions in a fast-paced retail setting.

You will maintain a well-stocked sales floor, assist with inventory, and stay informed about products to better assist students and faculty. Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, is required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
• Passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating a positive shopping experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and teammates.
• Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule year-round, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods, based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver an exceptional customer experience by greeting customers, answering questions, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service.
• Assist customers in locating course materials, school supplies, apparel, gifts, convenience items, and other merchandise that best meets their needs.
• Operate the point-of-sale system to accurately process transactions, including cash, credit, and financial aid purchases.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor through merchandising, replenishment, recovery, and housekeeping.
• Support daily store operations by assisting with inventory, receiving merchandise, order fulfillment, and other operational tasks to keep the store customer-ready.
• Develop product knowledge by staying informed about merchandise, promotions, store services, and course materials to confidently assist customers.
• Work collaboratively with teammates to accomplish daily priorities while adapting to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Contribute to a clean, safe, and organized store environment that reflects the Barnes & Noble College brand and delivers an exceptional customer experience.

The Part-Time Campus Store Team Member

The Part-Time Campus Store Team Member plays an important role in delivering an exceptional retail experience while supporting the daily operations of the campus store. Working alongside store leaders and teammates, this role creates a welcoming, customer-focused environment by providing outstanding service, maintaining an organized and well-stocked sales floor, and ensuring customers can easily find the products and services they need. Every interaction helps create a positive shopping experience that reflects the Barnes & Noble College brand.

Part-time employees work a year-round schedule with varying weekly hours.

Physical Demands

• Frequent movement throughout the store to access merchandise, assist customers, and support daily operations.
• Routine tasks may involve hanging and/or folding merchandise, stocking shelves, unpacking merchandise received, pulling and packing web orders for customers, pulling and packing merchandise to be returned to vendors, transporting merchandise within the store, assisting with the delivery of course materials to students within the store, completing data entry, or a variety of other physical tasks.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for periods of time.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of merchandise.
• Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
• May be required to perform routine housekeeping duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash removal.
