Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for pick-up and ensure a positive experience.
• Maintain pet habitats, feed, water, and clean all store-owned pets.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Face, fill, and recover products to meet sales standards.
• Recommends and sells merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote store events like adoption weekends and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexible schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects frequently; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; vision abilities required include depth perception.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise levels; handling live animals is common.
