Health Fitness has a rare opportunity for a full-time (approximately 40 hours per week, benefits eligible) GENERAL MANAGER OF RECREATION within our client's campus recreation program located in Cambridge, MA. In this position, you will manage and direct all operational aspects of our university recreation program in accordance with HealthFitness protocols, ensuring consistency across communications, training, marketing, programs, and services. You will be responsible for contract compliance, facility maintenance, development and adherence to the annual plan and program budget, supervision of managers, and acting as the primary client and HealthFitness contact within the program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development and implementation of the yearly strategic business plan to identify contract deliverables, program/service offerings and initiatives, targeted outcomes, and marketing strategies to meet client objectives.
- Ensure contract compliance. Manage client relationships to maintain high customer satisfaction and reinforce HealthFitness value. Coordinate contract renewal efforts.
- Prepare and manage the operating budget. Ensure expenditures comply with policies and procedures. Negotiate staff compensation and management fee increases.
- Develop outcome-focused programs to meet client objectives; interface with client management and relevant departments to assess needs and identify solutions.
- Ensure overall quality control. Deliver all facility operations and program activities in line with HealthFitness standards for operational excellence, safety, and service.
- Collect participant, program, and financial data to measure achievement and outcomes; create management reports based on business plan goals.
- Supervise staff in accordance with policies and laws, including recruiting, training, evaluating, developing, and succession planning. Provide opportunities for career growth. Conduct annual performance reviews and address corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure staff are properly trained according to standards. Serve as a resource for managers on customer relations issues.
- Coordinate recruitment efforts.
- Lead staff meetings and attend group meetings to keep associates informed about initiatives and events. Support staff networking and peer interaction.
- Report facility and program updates to the client's athletic department.
- Handle employment forms, payroll, and billing accurately and in accordance with contract provisions and policies. Ensure revenue collection and expense processes are functioning properly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Leadership, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, or a related field.
- Five or more years of related industry experience, including at least two years in program management and staff supervision.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from recognized agencies such as the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety & Health Institute.
Preferred:
- Master's degree or equivalent management experience.
- Strong leadership, team management, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including motivation abilities.
- Effective organization and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within HealthFitness and the client organization.
