Job Summary
PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, and pet safety standards as well as the direct care of pets within our store.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the register, and online to ensure a positive experience.
- Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist throughout the store.
- Prepare online orders for pick-up and ensure a smooth process.
- Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
- Maintain store cleanliness standards.
- Support weekly price updates and promotional displays.
- Stage and organize new products according to sales floor plans.
- Replenish and recover products to meet standards.
- Recommend and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
- Administer medications to store pets as directed by a veterinarian.
- Promote store events such as adoptions and charity programs.
- Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
- Act promptly if a sick or injured pet is identified.
- Assist in various store areas as needed.

- Follow all company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to react under pressure and stay composed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; specific vision abilities required.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise levels; handling live animals is common.
