Responsibilities

• Greet donors and customers and maintain efficient checkout operations.
• Operate the cash register, process sales, accept payments, and bag merchandise.
• Ask customers to Round Up their purchases and follow opening/closing procedures.
• Accept donations, provide receipts, and assist donors professionally.
• Merchandise counters and displays and maintain safe aisles and walking surfaces.
• Meet production goals by processing merchandise and recording production.
• Follow Kaizen drills and keep workstations clean and organized.
• Sort and move merchandise according to color, category, and pricing guidelines.
• Sort recyclables and salvage into designated containers to aid post-sale opportunities.
• Support store operations including donation processing, merchandising, cleaning, and backroom functions.

Job Title: Retail Sales Associate

Employment Type: Full-Time / Hourly

Goodwill Southwest Florida is seeking a Retail Sales Associate to provide friendly, fast, accurate, and safe customer service while supporting daily store operations. This position assists customers on the sales floor, operates cash registers, accepts donations, processes merchandise through the Kaizen system, and supports production and merchandising activities. The Retail Sales Associate is cross-trained in multiple areas of the store and helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by greeting donors and customers, monitoring entrances and exits, assisting customers on the sales floor, and maintaining efficient checkout operations.
• Operate the cash register, process sales transactions, accept payments, bag merchandise, ask customers to Round Up their purchases, and complete opening and closing register procedures.
• Accept donations, provide donation receipts, and assist donors in a courteous and professional manner.
• Merchandise counters, tables, racks, and other sales floor displays while maintaining safe aisles and walking surfaces throughout the store.
• Meet or exceed production goals by processing soft-line and hard-line merchandise, accurately recording production, and supporting continuous process improvement.
• Execute Kaizen 5-minute drills and maintain clean, safe, and organized workstations.
• Follow all processing procedures, including rubber banding shoes and other designated requirements.
• Move rolling racks and hoppers to the sales floor and merchandise products according to color, category, pricing, and rotation guidelines.
• Properly sort and place pulls, salvage, and recyclable commodities into designated containers, hoppers, Gaylords, totes, and other assigned locations to maximize aftermarket opportunities and minimize disposal expenses.
• Follow all company policies and procedures and support other store operations, including donation processing, merchandising, cleaning, fixture and equipment support, and backroom functions as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Retail experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cash registers, adding machines, credit card machines, telephones, and merchandise pricing.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of basic math skills and cash handling procedures.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, patience, and understanding.
• Ability to monitor store entrances and exits and notify management of concerns.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time and bend, stoop, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, and move merchandise.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to occasionally work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
