Overview

Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan (Goodwill SWMI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The organization operates ten retail stores (with attached, attended donation centers and one stand-alone donation center), Contract Manufacturing Operations, and Custodial & Janitorial business units. Goodwill SWMI provides employment, education, training, and support services tailored to individual needs across a six-county territory, with the mission of improving the community by helping the individuals served. Retail Production/Donation

General Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the team member in this position is to support the store in merchandising, production and accepting and sorting donations. The team member supports the store's retail goals by performing daily tasks and practicing the agency’s core values of Success, Collaboration, People and Positivity.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities And Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Greet donors in donation areas and assist in unloading vehicles while treating donated goods with care and placing items in the proper location.
  • Examine donated goods to determine if they are sellable.
  • Meet or exceed daily goals.
  • Practice safe and effective work habits.
  • Merchandise items in the store to increase sales.
  • Assist with the unloading and loading of products.
  • Keep back room organized and clean.
  • Ensure all production and donor records are completed correctly.
  • Determine price and label each item using established categories.
  • Performing other tasks as requested by management.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skilled in recognizing quality and value of items.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, reading, and writing.
  • Ability to merchandise product in the store.
  • Ability to operate or be trained to operate forklift in a safe manner.
  • Ability to use pallet jack and move pallets.
  • Skilled in organizing and categorizing.
  • Ability to perform as a productive team member and self-motivated.
Qualifications

Previous work experience preferred but not required.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding job requiring standing, bending, twisting, reaching and grasping six to eight hours per day. The job also includes frequent pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying objects weighing an average of 35 lbs. and occasional climbing.

Must be able to work a variety of hours and days of the week consistently. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and theft-related criminal background check.
