Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Dubuque is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee to join its team on a part-time basis. The 20-hour weekly schedule includes training across pharmacy operations, precise math processing, and customer service within a hospital setting.

The role emphasizes professional judgment, competence with pharmacy information systems, effective communication, and adherence to Pharmacy Citizenship Standards while supporting MercyOne’s mission and patient care standards.

Qualifications

• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for national technician certification within 1 year of hire.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a trainee prior to start of employment.
• Must pass and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform math calculations accurately (addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions, metric system).
• Exercise professional judgment when dealing with customers in the pharmacy.
• Be competent with all hospital and pharmacy information system programs used by the pharmacy.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication with colleagues and customers.
• Display Pharmacy Citizenship Standards in behavior and duties.
• Organize, prioritize, and function under multiple stress factors in a busy setting.

As a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, you:

• Be competent and accurate with performing math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions and the metric system.

Schedule :

• 20 hours per week

General Requirements :

• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a trainee prior to start of employment
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
