Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support licensed pharmacists in medication preparation, labeling, and distribution across our facilities. You will assist with inventory management, supplier coordination, and patient data entry, while following USP standards and safety protocols.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, state licensure/registration, and completion of CPhT or ExCPT certification within 18 months.

Qualifications

• No work experience required.
• Must obtain CPhT or ExCPT certification within 18 months from start date.
• Registration or licensure with state board of pharmacy per state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
• Accurately select, prepare, and label medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks.
• Screen phone calls and route as needed using proper telephone etiquette.
• Assist in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
• Complete documentation for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances, where applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding following proper USP standards, where applicable.
• Perform sterile IV admixture, as defined at the entity level, using aseptic technique, where applicable.
• Inspect all assigned medication storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
• Complete and document medication admission histories, as applicable at the facility level.
• Seek additional duties when required work is done and accept other duties as assigned.
• May participate in quality improvement initiatives to assure excellence of departmental services.
• May assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders in orientation to policies and workflows.
• Abide by organization policies and procedures and comply with regulatory standards.
• Support area leaders regarding goals and work assignments.
• Record initial patient demographics and enter data into the pharmacy system for record keeping and insurance verification.
• Develop competence in third-party billing functions.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to patients’ ages.
• May obtain immunization certification and immunize under supervision where applicable.
• Responsible for operating Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies as required.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification / Registration / License

• Registration or licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements
• Must receive certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or NationalHealthcareerAssociation (ExCPT)within18 monthsfrom start date, orsooner if inmore stringent in state.
