Responsibilities

• Prepare oral outpatient medications under physician supervision.
• Verify orders for insurance approval before dispensing.
• Greet patients at drop-off/pick-up counters and answer calls.
• Dispose materials properly and maintain a clean work area.
• Check monthly for expired drugs and record inventory.
• Perform inventory control and reorder supplies as directed.

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Retail Pharmacy Technician to support our office in Newport News.

Compensation Range

$17.10 - $36.76. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare oral outpatient medications under the supervision of a physician. Checks orders for completeness of information including proper physician authorization and patient information
• Checks orders for insurance approval prior to dispensing
• Customer Service by greeting patients at drop off/pick up counters, answer phone calls and action accordingly
• Properly disposes all materials used in preparation and maintains clean environment.
• Checks drugs monthly for outdates and keeps accurate records of products dispensed and ordered into inventory.
• Completes inventory control of medications. Orders supplies and medications as directed and ensures that standard drug supplies are in adequate supply

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2-3 years retail pharmacy tech experience required.
• Basic use of Microsoft Email and Microsoft Excel program
• Oncology background preferred.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician strongly recommended
• Must be willing to travel to all office locations as needed

Physical Demands:

This position requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination, ability to read and note appropriate measurement, sitting/standing for extensive periods, occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
