Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy department in inventory, preparation, distribution, and compounding of medications. The role includes answering phones, taking refill orders, and assisting in medication processing under pharmacist supervision.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Indiana Pharmacy Tech – In Training or Indiana Pharmacy Technician License, or intern/extern license if enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire, unless enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy or in an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
  • Absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency in typing and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Under pharmacist supervision, support the pharmacy department in inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories.
  • Assist with medication processing activities including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into the system, and preparing medications for pharmacist check.
  • Prepare medications for disbursement, shipment, or delivery and maintain records.
  • Assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions.
  • Work with pharmacy staff to minimize potential medication errors.

Description

Under pharmacist supervision, you will support the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. You will assist with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into the system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, and preparing medications for disbursement, shipment, or delivery. Key job duties may include handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, and distributing supplies. You may also assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. You will work with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.
