Job summary

MercyOne Dubuque is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee to support pharmaceutical care under a pharmacist’s supervision. You will assist across age groups, perform math calculations, and use hospital/pharmacy information systems with care and accuracy.

The daytime schedule is listed, and you must be eligible to sit for national technician certification within one year and register with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy before starting.

Qualifications

• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
• Must be competent with math calculations and able to work with patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics under pharmacist supervision.
• Accurately perform calculations and support pharmacy information systems.
• Support customer service and daily pharmacy operations in a fast-paced hospital setting.

We are looking to hire a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee.As a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, Reports to the Lead Pharmacist or in their absence, the Retail Pharmacy Supervisor.Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatrics.Tasks require a moderate amount of independent judgement, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.

Schedule

• Rotating shifts and hours may vary between the two campuses
  • 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM; M - F
  • 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Saturday

General Requirements

• Must be competent and accurate with performing math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions and the metric system.
• Must demonstrate the ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with pharmacy’s customers.
• Must be competent and thorough in performing job functions to all age groups.
• Must display satisfactory customer relation skills consistent with Mercy’s mission, values and expectations.
• Must display behavior consistent with Pharmacy Citizenship Standards.
• Must effectively utilize verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.
• Must be competent with all hospital and pharmacy information system programs that pharmacy utilizes.

Education

• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
• Typing, clerical and science background are desirable.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.

Note: A minimum of three months of “on the job” training is required to perform the job; 12-24 months is usually required to become proficient.
