Job description

Retail Pharmacy Tech II

We do bedside delivery, bedside detailing, and free home delivery for prescription medications. The role requires 2 years of experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask between different duties. Friendly and courteous interactions with patients are essential, and Spanish language skills are a plus. The Pharmacy Technician assists in the technical aspects of medication distribution, performs medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions, and participates in the entire pharmacy workflow. Techs do not deliver the prescriptions themselves; a third‑party driver handles everyday deliveries.

Essential Functions
  • Enter medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fill according to label, ensuring correct product, dosage form, and charge quantity per formulary.
  • Enter correct billing data, complete and file appropriate paperwork to ensure payment for and delivery of pharmacy supplies, and monitor lost charges.
  • Perform advanced insurance adjudication, benefits investigation, and coordination of benefits (Part B, specialty drugs).
  • Perform Tech‑Check‑Tech product verification.
  • Perform pharmacy services and duties associated with stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing, and delivery of medications.
  • Assist patients and medical staff with non‑judgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor; answer simple questions from staff and patients.
  • Deliver medication appropriately to patients and deliver delivery carts to floors daily.
  • Order supplies daily and coordinate returns for credit when pharmaceuticals have expired.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and fully stocked work environment per established policies and procedures; perform inventory control including stocking, cleaning, and facing prescription and OTC shelves.
  • Compound or admix ingredients appropriately for dispensing, cart fill, and sterile preparation under pharmacist supervision.
  • Perform IV admixtures using aseptic techniques and in compliance with accepted regulatory standards as required.
Key Success Factors
  • General understanding of pharmacy care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use, and aseptic techniques, standards, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for labeling and dispensing prescription medications.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions and flow‑chart protocols.
  • Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to follow established safety, infection control, environmental, and isolation practices and procedures at all times.
  • Interpersonal skills required to interact effectively with patients and staff.
  • General computer skills, including use of required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
  • Maintain PTCB/NHA certification or possess associated skillset.
