Genesis HealthCare System in Maysville, KY is seeking a Pharmacist to interpret prescriptions, counsel patients, and supervise staff in the Genesis Maysville Pharmacy. The role requires a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy and a valid pharmacist license in Ohio.

This position supports patient care, ensures compliance with laws, and provides accurate dosing and drug information. Work is a day shift with 16 scheduled hours per week.

Overview of Position:

Interprets prescriptions and dispenses pharmaceuticals and related devices in accordance with federal, state and local laws. Provides patient information and counseling. Supervises technical staff and is role model to demonstrate courteous, compassionate care for customers and co-workers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Interprets prescriptions using professional judgment in dispensing pharmaceuticals and related products.
• Reviews patients’ utilization, therapeutic duplications, disease state, drug interaction, drug allergy, dosage and duration of drug treatment, abuse or misuse of drug and takes appropriate action when concerns arise.
• Contacts prescribers for clarifications of orders or to notify them of unobtainable medications.
• Verifies appropriate pharmaceutical agent to the prescription order.
• Uses professional judgment in the placing of appropriate container and label.
• Verifies particular patient receives specific drug from proper practitioner.
• Calculates accurate doses and prepares compounded prescriptions and IV medications according to physician orders.
• Provides patient education and counseling as needed.
• Supervises technical staff, is physically present in pharmacy and personally reviews and approves all professional pharmaceutical activity.
• Oversees cash management of the store and is observant of all staff activity.
• Assists in orienting new staff, interns and externs to department
• Manages work flow, assigns work loads and approves overtime and time off as needed
• Assists in ordering and inventory of pharmaceutical so that quality, cost-effective products are used and appropriate inventory levels are maintained
• Responsible for securing building before leaving at the close of the day.
• Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the managing pharmacist.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy and a licensed pharmacist in the State of Ohio.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
• Excellent decision-making, conflict resolution and investigative skills.
• Ability to provide outstanding customer service and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
• Ability to work under stress.
• Must have computer skills with knowledge of pharmacy software.

• Works in a pharmacy environment. May be required to drive and work at other Northside pharmacies on occasion.
• Answers telephone calls, uses computer and other business machines extensively, which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity.
• Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Regularly lifts or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off and be on call.
