Job summary

NeighborUp seeks an Assistant Manager to help direct daily retail priorities at the Cary campus. You will supervise staff and volunteers across the Dorcas Thrift Shop and Dorcas Vintage & Home, oversee donation intake, and manage the sales lifecycle with a strong focus on customer care.

You will train volunteers, ensure SOP compliance, and support opening/closing duties while maintaining a tidy, safe store environment for customers and team members.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent GED.
• At least 3 years in Retail Sales, Inventory Management or Facilities Management, with 1 year in a lead role preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication; strong customer service focus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff and volunteers during shifts, ensuring coverage across back/middle/front-of-house.
• Assist with donation intake, processing and sales lifecycle for Dorcas Thrift Shop and Dorcas Vintage & Home.

Summary:This position is responsible for assisting with leading and directing the daily tactical priorities of NeighborUp’s retail operations, including donation intake, processing and the sales lifecycle. The Assistant Manager is responsible for leading staff and volunteers assigned to perform shift coverage for functions in the back-of-house, middle-of-house and front-of-house. This is a full-time non-exempt position based on our Cary campus. This position reports to a Retail Operations Manager of NeighborUp.Essential Functions:Working collaboratively with staff and volunteers to oversee the essential functions of the Dorcas Thrift Shop and/or Dorcas Vintage & Home. Responsible for providing guidance, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and maintaining high standards of quality, timeliness and customer care.Provide training and mentorship to staff and volunteers.Essential functions include, but are not limited to overseeing tasks such as cashiering, front door attendance, sales floor recovery, shelf restocking, and processing merchandise in various categories, as well as assisting with donation drop-offs.Assist with the daily opening and closing procedures for the Dorcas Thrift Shop and/or Dorcas Vintage & Home, including the retail store, drop off area, receiving dock and merchandise processing stations.Be proactive in seeking opportunities to enhance the customer experience and provide exceptional service.Ensure NeighborUp’s facilities remain tidy, safe and healthy for customers, volunteers and staff; ensure general upkeep of plaza grounds.Stay up-to-date with any procedural changes and informational updates related to NeighborUp’s operations that are communicated through email or signage, and assist in disseminating this information to staff and volunteers.Provide management level coverage for the retail operations when a Retail Operations Manager isn’t available.Other duties as assigned:Represent NeighborUp both inside and outside the organization.Expand learning and personal skill development through participation in career development training.Participate fully in NeighborUp events conducted for staff and volunteers. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by a Retail Operations Manager or Director of Retail Operations.Handle highly confidential and sensitive information.Consistent and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.Supervisory Responsibility:Provide oversight and leadership to any staff and volunteers assigned to Retail Operations.Foster a climate of collaboration and mutual trust between staff and volunteers.Education & Experience:Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent GED program.Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Retail Sales, Inventory Management or Facilities Management, including one (1) year of experience in a lead role, preferred.Skills Required:Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated understanding of customer service principles.Must be able to exercise sound judgment and handle sensitive information.Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.Strong critical listening and thinking skills.Demonstrated capacity for problem-solving, taking the initiative and having a “can-do” attitude.Ability to build trust and excellent working relationships with colleagues and volunteers; must be approachable.Ability to effectively handle difficult situations with staff, volunteers and/or customers.Demonstrated capacity to work well both autonomously and as part of a team.Some computer skills to include Microsoft products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), point-of-sale system, internet and mobile applications.Availability to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.Physical Demands:Able to stand and remain mobile for an entire shift, lifting, climbing steps and traversing workspaces congested with people and products like a retail and/or warehouse operation.Ability to work in limited temperature and humidity-controlled environments, both inside and outside, and in inclement weather conditions, occasionally.Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. using proper lifting techniques.Tasks, duties, and responsibilities, as listed in this position description, are not exhaustive.
