Job description

We are an Inc. 5000 fast-growing pet brand seeking a driven performance marketer. This role is the revenue engine behind our growth—turning traffic, content, and attention into profitable results.

The largest part of our spend is on Amazon, Walmart and Chewy because that’s where most of our business happens today. You’ll own it.

We’re hiring an operator, you don’t have to be an Amazon specialist. If you’ve scaled paid social, another retail media network or a lifecycle program with real revenue attached, we’d love to talk. The mechanics of Amazon can be learned. Judgment about where the next dollar should go is harder to teach.

You’ll report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, who owns the commercial P&L.

What You’ll Own

Marketplace Media

  • Full ownership of paid media across Amazon, Walmart and Chewy
  • Campaign architecture, targeting, bidding and budget allocation across pet and human dental
  • Weekly decisions about where to scale, where to cut and why
  • Accountability for TACoS, ad-attributed contribution margin and share of voice in our core categories

Measurement

  • Amazon Attribution, Brand Referral Bonus and Amazon Marketing Cloud
  • Build one dashboard with the CCO that the leadership team actually uses, not five exports telling five different stories
  • Separate what traffic is doing from what listings are doing, then bring the answer with data instead of opinion
  • Measure performance based on contribution, not whatever number the platform wants to take credit for

Promotions and Pricing

  • Model and execute deals, coupons and promotional events using real margin math
  • Flag when a promotion is buying volume we don’t want at a price we can’t defend
  • Support Subscribe & Save performance and retention economics
  • Help the team understand what a pricing or promotional decision is buying us

The Connection to Everything Else

  • Partner with our marketing team on demand creation so off-platform traffic converts when it lands
  • Brief creative on what the conversion data says
  • Turn what’s working into better ads, better listings and better decisions

AI & Tools (Non-Negotiable)

  • Use tools and platforms to:
  • Manage campaigns efficiently
  • Be comfortable working across platforms like Amazon Ads, Chewy Ads, Walmart Connect, and affiliate tools

What You Need to Bring

We’re screening hard for four things:

1. You’ve personally run paid media at meaningful scale.

The platform matters less than the ownership. It could be Meta, TikTok, Amazon, Walmart, Criteo, Google or a lifecycle program carrying real revenue. What matters is that your hands were on the keyboard and your decisions moved the budget.

If your experience is limited to managing an agency that managed the work, this role won’t be a fit.

2. You think in contribution margin, not platform-reported ROAS.

You understand that ad spend lands on the P&L. Fees, returns, discounts and promotional depth all change the answer. A campaign with a 4x ROAS can still be a bad decision.

We’ll ask you to walk us through a real budget decision and the margin logic behind it.

3. You build your own reporting.

You don’t wait for an analyst to tell you what happened. You pull the data, structure it and turn it into a decision. Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills are the floor.

4. You’ve taught yourself a channel before.

At some point, you walked into something you didn’t know, figured it out and made it work. That’s probably the best predictor of how your first six months here will go, and it’s something we’ll dig into during the interview.

Why This Job

  • You’ll own the spend outright. No agency layer and no inherited campaign structure you’re expected to defend.
  • You’ll report directly to the CCO and be in the room for pricing, promotions and launch decisions.
  • Your work will be visible at the top of the company from week one.
  • There’s room above you. As the function grows, this role can grow with it.

Who You Are

  • Direct. You say what the data says, even when it’s inconvenient or points back to your own campaigns.
  • Comfortable owning the function without a team underneath you on day one.
  • Fast in the details without losing sight of what moves the business.
  • Collaborative with creative partners. You write a clear brief, give useful feedback and don’t treat marketing like a vendor.

What Success Looks Like

First 90 days: You know the accounts cold, the spend is fully in your hands and performance hasn’t slipped.

Six months: The measurement stack is live across Amazon Attribution, Brand Referral Bonus and AMC. Leadership has one dashboard it trusts. TACoS is moving in the right direction while contribution margin holds.

Twelve months: You’re the person the team goes to before making a pricing, promotional or advertising decision, and we’re talking about what should grow underneath you.

If you’re looking for a role with real ownership, we’d like to hear from you!
