Primary Function
The Retail Lending Supervisor supports A+ Federal Credit Union’s strategic goals and mission to be the first choice financial partner for members. This role involves supervising the daily operations of the Retail Lending team, enhancing member and employee experiences, and fostering a success-driven environment. Responsibilities include implementing the Consultative Conversation model, managing service levels and productivity, leading departmental projects, and using analytics to drive team success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Employee Management
- Supervise daily operations of the Retail Loan Officer team, including scheduling, hiring, training, coaching, and terminations.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm, and exceptional service.
- Conduct coaching sessions and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with the Lending Workforce Coordinator for optimal staffing.
- Manage timecards and monitor leave balances.
- Maintain training and development plans covering product knowledge, lending principles, and compliance.
- Complete performance evaluations and recommend promotions or corrective actions.
2. Departmental Support
- Develop and promote consultative conversations across loan products and partnerships.
- Monitor application pipeline, performance, and compliance with disclosures.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and federal/state regulations.
- Collaborate on cross-training, metrics, service standards, and scorecards.
- Partner with leadership to improve processes and member/employee experience.
- Align lending workflows with branch operations.
- Support communication and feedback with branch leadership.
- Coordinate with mortgage lending for consulting, closings, and outreach.
- Resolve escalations and service issues.
- Approve overrides and support loan processing and funding.
- Assist with in-branch mortgage closing training and procedures.
3. Product/Project Ownership & Support
- Serve as product owner for assigned consumer loan products.
- Monitor origination and portfolio performance.
- Develop data-driven strategies for sales, marketing, and analytics.
- Lead and support departmental projects, including planning and stakeholder communication.
- Build and maintain production reports and vendor performance metrics.
- Participate in departmental planning and budgeting.
- Visit branches to engage with teams and provide coaching.
- Assist with employee loan applications.
- Create and update departmental procedures.
- Manage system access for third-party platforms.
- Conduct monthly dialogs with direct manager.
- Represent the credit union at community and educational events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of consumer lending experience.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- 1 year of mortgage lending experience preferred.
- Must be a commissioned Notary Public in Texas (or obtain within 12 months).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of consumer and mortgage loan products and fraud prevention.
- Strong understanding of underwriting concepts (credit scores, LTV, DTI, etc.).
- Familiarity with retail banking operational and security controls.
- Proven leadership and coaching abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel and work off-site at least 25% of the time.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Certifications & Registrations
- Must register as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) upon hire.
- Maintain annual registration and updates.
- Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action or termination.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and data entry.
- Continuous communication via phone, email, and in-person.
- Strong problem-solving skills for field-related issues.
