Overview

At Office Depot and Office Max, every leader is responsible for growing total sales and services within the location. The General Manager owns and is responsible for achieving results in Sales, Services, Operations Profit, and Customer/Community relationships. They drive the overall customer experience and sales service culture within the location, manage sales performance, and identify sales opportunities. They develop store strategies and tactics to meet sales and operational goals, increase conversion rates, and drive customer traffic. Ensuring maximum sales and profitability by focusing on key initiatives is essential.

The General Manager also owns associate training and development, talent assessment, and succession planning. They provide positive and constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling. Leading, motivating, and inspiring associates to create a customer-first environment results in a memorable experience. The role involves engaging with the local community, hosting in-store events with small and medium businesses (SMB), to build client relationships, improve retention, and increase brand loyalty.

Responsibilities include hiring, merchandising, store operations, standards execution, resolving associate and customer concerns, and partnering with business teams. The role also involves performance management and fostering a positive, inclusive workplace. The General Manager acts as a Change Champion, supporting company initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field
  • 2-4 years management experience or demonstrated skills through internal development programs
  • Good business acumen and leadership skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute instructions efficiently
