Job Overview

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is hiring a Retail Food Safety Inspector for the Lexington Territory. As an inspector, you will ensure food establishments comply with safety regulations and maintain sanitary practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct compliance graded inspections of retail food service establishments and take necessary enforcement actions.
  • Ensure foods are prepared, packaged, and marketed under safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control activities, including proficiency testing and standardization.
  • Provide detailed inspection reports and outline enforcement actions if needed.
  • Investigate complaints and suspected foodborne illnesses, collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Provide consultation to food industry personnel and perform pre-operational inspections, issuing permits for new facilities.
Additional Information

A state-provided take-home vehicle is included. The role involves extensive in-state travel, including operating in confined spaces, climbing stairs and ladders, and standing/walking for prolonged periods in varying temperatures.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
