Job description

Summary:

Manages and maintains a high quality inventory while keeping it within budget. Establishes and maintains a yearly sales plan for retail merchandise, the sale of soft goods and tracks and performs inventory for all soft goods merchandise. Promotes new merchandise and provides customer service to the members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following;

  • Maintains a high level of training for all Merchandisers and Pro Shop staff, regarding new lines, new fabrics or any major changes with soft goods.
  • Manages Soft Goods Retail buying plan. Determines and recommends merchandise to be bought and places merchandise orders to ensure the stocking of attractive inventory.
  • Analyzes and controls soft goods inventory.
    • Plans and directs the inventory assignments.
    • Verifies inventory counts and maintains records of soft goods merchandise from staff members’ daily inventory areas.
    • Reorders from daily counts as necessary.
    • Reviews records with Golf Shop Manager on a weekly basis.
  • Performs a variety of duties such as answering phone calls, making, changing and canceling tee times, ringing through cart fees, guest fees and merchandise, folds clothing, straightens up the Golf Center and provides excellent customer service.
  • Orders, tracks, checks in and displays merchandise. Places special orders for members and follows up on order details. Provides members with accurate arrival dates for their order.
  • Handles questions and complaints from members and staff.
  • Assists with special events as necessary.
  • Opens & closes the Golf Center.
    • Supervisor and Key Holder who follows all appropriate procedures to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the shop.
    • Ensures that the Pro Shop is opened on time and that opening procedures have been followed the designated employees.
    • Ensures that the Pro Shop is closed properly following the proper procedures to ensure that the drawers balance according to purchases made and rounds of golf played.
  • Evaluations of staff members.
    • Gives direct input to Shop Manager and Directors of Golf Operations on employees performance with daily inventories and any other observations on performance.
  • Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Golf Shop Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises employees in the Golf department with regards to inventory, merchandise knowledge and manages the Pro Shop in the absence of senior managers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes recommendations as to the hiring and firing of employees.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Inventory software; Internet software, Order processing systems, Point of Sale system and Chelsea Tee Time system.
