Job summary

Goodwill in Tehachapi, CA is seeking a Retail Clerk I to provide customer service, process payments, and maintain the sales floor. You will support donation processing, assist customers with loading merchandise, and help with stocking and merchandising while upholding Goodwill’s values.

Complete opening activities to include doors, housekeeping, till count, prep of water cooling stations, cash wrap set up, and other activities.2. Pick up merchandise, to include heavy materials up to 50 pounds in weight and place on cash wrap. Key in price, applying appropriate sales incentives, where appropriate, into the cash register. Pick up merchandise and place in bags. Pick up bags, to include heavy bags of up to 50 pounds in weight and place in customer shopping cart.3. Assist customers with carrying often heavy or bulky merchandise, to include materials up to 50 pounds in weight, to the customer’s vehicle.4. Stock shelves with merchandise, to include heavy materials up to 50 pounds in weight. Stage large pieces of housewares (rugs, paintings, furniture) onto sales floor for display. Dress mannequins for display purposes on the sales floor.5. Provides all necessary customer service while projecting a positive image during public contact. For instance, greeting customers upon arrival, referring complaints to management, finding specific products for customers, answering routine questions regarding products and store operations. Maintains professional, polite and positive relationship with Customers, Coworkers, and other stakeholders at all times.6. Handles cash register functions and transactions including: sales, correct pricing, inventory control, and receipting to customers.7. Responsible for cash register accuracy including before and after counts, daily reports and accounting for overages and shortages.8. Responsible to perform housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness of donation area, bathroom(s), fitting rooms, and all interior and exterior of the store. This may include, but not be limited to, cleaning bathroom fixtures, walls, floors, completing a 5-minute drill prior to each rest and meal break, recovering garbage or other materials from interior or exterior of the building, sweeping, mopping, and/or vacuuming floors, and other cleaning activities.9. Attend to fitting room area in order to assist customers and call attention to concerns over loss prevention that you observe.10. Complete closing activities to include doors, housekeeping, till count, cleaning of water cooling stations, sales floor recovery, and other activities.11. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and cooperative working relationships at all times.12. Maintains professional, polite and positive relationship with Clients, Customers, and Coworkers at all times.13. Performs necessary record keeping and reporting of money, sales, inventory and production.14. Responsible to fulfill production functions such as; receive and process donated goods, direct donors to proper locations and issue receipts and/or printed information.15.
