Job summary

A leading retail firm in Temecula, CA, is looking for a Retail Buyer to independently manage purchasing categories. Responsibilities include sourcing and selecting merchandise, negotiating with vendors, and maintaining inventory levels. The ideal candidate will possess 1-3 years of retail buying experience, a High School diploma or GED, and knowledge of purchasing methods. Proficiency in Infor/FSM is highly desirable. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Ability to present information in small groups and write reports.
  • Required Class 'A' Gaming License.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Retail Buyer independently manages categories and provides direct support to the Retail Purchasing Supervisor in sourcing, selecting, planning and purchasing merchandise to be sold in the retail stores.

FOUR DIAMOND SERVICE AGREEMENT

All Team Members will display a Four Diamond commitment to Customer Service through the delivery and maintenance of the Quality Standards established by Pechanga Resort and Casino.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Knowledge of wholesale / retail purchasing methods and procedures including open market purchasing and formal contract and negotiating techniques.
  • Ability to logically and independently plan, organize and complete work as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Ability to curate product assortments that meet company standards and profit goals.
  • Ability to efficiently and strategically manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintains and develops vendor relationships, communicating effectively, negotiating prices and securing the best quality merchandise and value for the company.
  • Ability to generate reports, monitor inventory levels, analyze sales data for product performance.
  • Manage the purchasing flow, tracking confirmations and expediting inbound merchandise, ensuring on-time delivery, skillfully and tactfully.
  • Significant amount of time on the purchasing system, building database of items, processing purchase documents efficiently and accurately.
  • Works with Retail Purchasing Supervisor in developing and executing product strategies, to maximize sales and inventory turnover, and profit margins set forth in the business plan for budgetary goals.
  • To insure and make known that Pechanga business is carried out economically, efficiently, effectively and in accordance with company policies with the purpose of ensuring accountability.
  • Ensure that all billable services are properly reported and accurately reflected in the purchasing system and financial statements.
  • Ensure that any and all adjustments are appropriate, accurate and approved.
  • Ensure that the recording and reporting of all Pechanga assets is carried out in accordance with current SOPs, Policies and Procedures.
  • Travel will be required for the purpose of researching market trends, planning and buying merchandise for all seasons and categories.
  • Other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years retail buying experience in a hotel/casino environment or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required to successfully perform this job.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This position requires the ability to read and interpret retail documentation and reports. This position also requires the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Furthermore, this position also requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: This position requires the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY: This position requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. This position also requires the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Class “A” Gaming License

SKILLS/ABILITIES: High level of computer literacy with experience in the Infor/FSM inventory system, Word, Excel and Data Entry.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Possesses self-management skills with the ability to logically and independently plan and organize. Knowledge of retail and direct purchasing methods by sourcing, negotiating and procuring goods to balance cost savings with supply chain reliability. Knowledge of Company purchasing policies and procedures.
