Overview

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot, Inc. plays a pivotal role in driving total sales and service growth within our stores. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help us create a vibrant sales culture, enhance visual and merchandising standards, manage freight and logistics activities, and prioritize customer satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will lead a customer-centric environment, engage with the community, and foster a positive culture aligned with the Office Depot 5C values: Customer, Commitment, Change, Caring, and Creativity. This role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and includes responsibilities as a Key Carrier, including opening and closing the store.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Sales and Service Excellence
  • Partner with management to deliver memorable customer experiences and satisfaction.
  • Implement Office Depot selling techniques and sales training.
  • Assist in training and developing associates to foster a sales-focused environment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and product expertise as a role model.
  • Operational Efficiency
    • Process merchandise accurately, adhering to procedures and visual standards.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
    • Support the General Manager in coaching associates for performance improvement.
    • Contribute to sales and profitability through conversion and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Leadership and Team Development
    • Guide, train, and observe store associates, including Print Services staff.
    • Conduct training on the business model and service offerings.
    • Provide feedback to enhance proficiency and foster a culture of trust and loyalty.
    • Assess store staff performance and competencies, exercising independent judgment.
  • External Key Carrier Responsibilities
    • Ensure safety and security during absences of other managers.
    • Perform opening and closing duties, including alarm activation/deactivation, cash handling, and store balancing.
    • Maintain loss prevention compliance as a store leader.

    Education and Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s preferred.
    • Relevant fields: Business, Marketing, Retail.
    • 1-3 years of related experience; retail, sales, or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Basic computer skills and experience with logistics and freight.
    • Strong selling skills and leadership ability.
    • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to adapt, work independently, and drive results.

    Additional Information

    The role involves periodic background checks, and the salary range is $16.57 to $25.28 per hour, with potential adjustments based on minimum wages.
