Overview

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot, Inc. plays a pivotal role in driving total sales and service growth within our stores. Additionally, your enthusiasm and expertise will help us create and nurture a vibrant sales culture, enhancing our store's visual and merchandising standards, freight, and logistics activities, and prioritizing unparalleled client satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will help lead a customer-centric environment, engage with the local community, all while fostering a positive culture aligned with the Office Depot 5C values of Customer, Commitment, Change, Caring, and Creativity. The Retail Assistant Store Manager will be a “Key Carrier” and considered a leader on duty. All Retail Assistant Store Managers must be able to work a flexible schedule that aligns with business needs, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Full-Time Assistant Manager positions must be able to perform External Key Carrier responsibilities, including opening and closing the store.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Sales and Service Excellence:
    • Partner with the management team to drive memorable customer experiences and client satisfaction.
    • Ensure the execution of Office Depot, Inc. selling techniques and sales training across the store.
    • Foster a sales-focused environment through assisting with the training and development of associates.
    • Act as a role model for delivering exceptional customer service and product expertise.
  2. Operational Efficiency:
    • Process merchandise accurately and efficiently, adhering to established procedures, deadlines, and visual merchandising standards.
    • Identify areas for process improvement and implement plans to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
    • Assist the General Manager in providing guidance and effective coaching to associates for improved performance.
    • Contribute to increasing sales and profitability through conversion, Average Order Value (AOV), and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  3. Leadership and Team Development:
    • Provide guidance, direction, and ongoing training to store associates, including Print Services associates.
    • Facilitate training sessions on the business model and holistic service offerings for clients/customers.
    • Observe, coach, and provide feedback to enhance associate proficiency and build a culture of trust and loyalty.
    • Exercise independent judgment when assessing store associates' performance, certifications, and competencies, and provide input to the General Manager.
  4. External Key Carrier Responsibilities:
    • Maintain safety and security during manager absences.
    • Perform opening and closing responsibilities, including alarm system management, cash handling, and store balancing.
    • Ensure compliance with loss prevention policies.
    • Fulfill responsibilities associated with External Key Carrier designation.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Background in Business, Marketing, Retail, or related fields.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related experience; retail, sales, customer-facing, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with logistics and freight.
  • Strong selling skills and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute instructions efficiently.
  • Adaptability to changing environments and results-driven mindset.
