Job summary

Stio, a mountain lifestyle brand based in Jackson, Wyoming, is seeking a Retail Area Manager to lead multiple Mountain Studio stores with strong P&L ownership. You will drive store operations, staff development and performance, while collaborating with cross-divisional teams to expand our retail channel.

You will report to the Retail Senior Director and lead hiring, budgeting and onboarding. This role requires up to 40% travel and a passion for the outdoors, with responsibilities expanding as we

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with substantial retail leadership experience.
  • 8+ years of multi-unit leadership experience and/or responsibility over $12M+ in retail volume.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with project management tools (Asana or similar).
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with retail leadership and cross-divisional teams to grow our retail channel, creating meaningful customer and employee experiences.
  • Hiring new Store Managers when needed, guiding a quality onboarding process.
  • Support all retail hiring needs within your store teams, collaborating with your Store Managers and HR team.
  • Consistently connect with your team and support their varied projects and progress.
  • Ownership over budget management including investing in Store Manager business acumen and monthly tasks, individual stores EBITDA, annual budget planning and monthly reforecast processes.
  • Participate in capital expense and assortment planning proposals when relevant.
  • Ongoing support for local retail marketing planning and initiatives.
  • Support successful progress in retail KPIs, developing teams who create memorable Mountain Studio experiences.
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly operations accountability and updates for process improvements.
  • Support new store openings and physical inventory counts when needed.
  • Facilitate Sendback TOs in partnership with the Planning team and NRI for your assigned stores.

YOUR ROLE

The Retail Area Manager supports our Stio Mountain Studio™ leadership and teams in all aspects of their business and people leadership. This role is responsible for people and business leadership related to store needs with retail leadership and key internal stakeholders aligned with our evolving channel growth, both current and new retail locations. The Retail Area Manager will bring seasoned experience in multi-unit leadership, budget planning and ownership, as well as individual and team development. The responsibilities of this role will continue to evolve with changing needs of our teams and growth ahead for the retail channel and company.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with retail leadership and cross-divisional teams to continue to grow our retail channel, creating meaningful customer and employee experiences
  • Hiring new Store Managers when needed, guiding a quality onboarding process
  • Support all retail hiring needs within your store teams, collaborating with your Store Managers and HR team
  • Consistently connect with your team and support their varied projects and progress
  • Ownership over budget management including investing in Store Manager business acumen and monthly tasks, individual stores’ EBITDA, annual budget planning and monthly reforecast processes
  • Participate in capital expense and assortment planning proposals when relevant
  • Ongoing support for local retail marketing planning and initiatives
  • Support successful progress in retail KPIs, developing teams who create memorable Mountain Studio experiences
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly operations accountability and updates for process improvements
  • Support new store openings and physical inventory counts when needed
  • Facilitate Sendback TOs in partnership with the Planning team and NRI for your assigned stores.
  • Facilitate cycle counts and annual physical inventory counts for assigned stores
  • Develop and launch various initiatives for the retail channel in partnership with the Sr. Director of Retail as needed (eg. Training programs, incentive programs, succession plans, etc…)
  • Able to travel up to 40% annually
  • Ongoing collaboration with Retail Director, Store Managers and teams, key stakeholders in Planning and Finance as needed

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree with subsequent experience in retail leadership required
  • 8+ years of relevant experience including multi-unit leadership and/or responsibility over $12M+ in retail volume and budget ownership required
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite including Excel required
  • Experience in Asana or similar project management platform preferred
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, with an ability to clearly articulate support needs and summarize high level progress updates across key stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and collaborate cross-divisionally as needed
  • Excited to jump in wherever needed and to adjust to growing needs of our team as this role evolves and we add more Mountain Studios
THE FINE PRINT
  • This role is full-time salaried and exempt, reporting to the Retail Senior Director
  • Required location based in Denver, Colorado (CO mountain town acceptable) or near Boston, Massachusetts
  • When supporting on-site, must be able to move around the retail space, move upwards of 50lbs, and occasionally traverse ladders

We provide competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives and benefits. The base salary range for this role is $90,000-$110,000. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of the range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors including experience, skills, and qualifications.
