Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with children and families in educational or human service settings.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Training in restorative practices, conflict management, mediation, or coaching.
  • Ability to maintain case notes and documentation.
  • In-person assignment to Roanoke City schools during regular hours (8am–4pm).

The Bridge Institute offers mediation services and more, serving the Greater Roanoke and New River Valleys as well as Southwest Virginia. Our mission is to provide efficient, well-designed processes to prevent violence, resolve disputes, cultivate cooperation, and restore relationships.

Job brief - Part-time, nonexempt 20- 24 Hours/week

The Restorative Practices Facilitator (RPF) supports collaboration, connection and community wellbeing within the Roanoke City Public School District . The RPF is an integral part of supporting and developing the implementation of RJ philosophy and practice in the school community while supporting the overall mission and operation of the Bridge Institute. This position runs during the regular RCPSD school calendar year. This position is in person, no remote work available.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a facilitator for student-to-student harm and/or conflict issues and make appropriate referrals to other school staff regarding additional student needs.
  • Facilitate Restorative Circle processes when conflict or harm occurs between other school community members.
  • Support teachers and classroom aides with ongoing restorative practice support and coaching.
  • Maintain referral documentation and assessment data for case management and reporting.
  • Engage school community stakeholders (teachers, administrators, caregivers, students, school staff, etc) to expand knowledge and awareness of restorative practices.
  • Maintain weekly communication with school liaison by submitting schedules, plans, and any additional service information as requested.
  • Serve as a representative, trainer, and consultant for restorative practices and other community-based services including mediation, training, and peacebuilding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, human development, conflict or peace studies, psychology or other human service focused programs or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with children and families in an educational setting or other human service setting.
  • Ability to work respectfully and enthusiastically with people of multiple cultures and backgrounds.
  • Training and/or experience in restorative practices, conflict management, mediation, and/or conflict coaching.
  • A foundational understanding of restorative practices and values.
  • Experience working in a community setting to support community peacebuilding efforts such as listening circles, community dialogue, training, and conflict resolution work.
  • Ability to manage and maintain case management notes and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals and teams in a professional setting.
  • Ability to report in person to assigned schools in Roanoke City during regular school hours ( 8am - 4pm).
