Position Summary

The Restorative Nursing Aide (RNA) is responsible for continuing the maintenance program established and instructed by Physical Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist with a physician’s order. Performs other restorative programs for assigned residents under the direction of the Director of Nursing or designee.

Location and Compensation

Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs restorative and rehabilitation care and services (ambulation, range of motion, etc.) with residents as indicated in individual care plans.


• Encourages residents to perform/participate in ADL functions.


• Demonstrates to residents and staff the procedures involved in the treatment process.


• Documents resident participation in and response to services in accordance with state regulations and facility policy.


• Recommends modifications and changes in the residents’ restorative care.


• Works closely with nursing staff and/or licensed rehabilitation staff to assure services are performed to meet the needs of the resident.


• Coordinates splinting program.


• Assists with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, wheelchairs.


• Practices proper body mechanics while delivering restorative nursing care.


• Answers resident call lights promptly.


• Obtains residents’ weight as indicated.


• Provides weight bearing therapy in accordance with residents’ plan of care.


• Communicates resident level of function and specific needs to receiving staff.


• Relates to and works with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.


• Complies with resident rights, treating all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.


• Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information.


• Uses mechanical equipment with proper training.


• Demonstrates dependability by being punctual and maintaining consistent attendance.

Job Functions

• Monitors use and condition of adaptive equipment/assistive devices, arranging for repair as needed.


• Assists in maintaining therapy area and equipment in a clean, safe, functional condition.


• Practices infection control guidelines.


• Assists in standardizing the methods in which restorative care will be accomplished.


• Follows established safety precautions.


• Willing to incorporate change into existing nursing practices.


• Follows established smoking regulations.


• Reports all complaints and grievances made by the resident.


• Reports all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.


• Reports any communicable or infectious disease.


• Reports all hazardous conditions, equipment, and safety violations.


• Reports occupational exposures: blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.


• Assists in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.


• May be called back during emergency conditions.


• Attends and participates in mandated state, OSHA, and CDC in-service training programs.


• Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Capacities

• Can see and hear, or use prosthetics to enable adequate function.


• Meets general health requirements, including annual TB screening and physical examination.


• Can lift a minimum of 25 pounds.


• Can lift up and over 100 pounds with assistance according to resident’s abilities.


• Can move intermittently during working hours.


• Can stand for and walk for extended periods of time.


• Can perform continuous bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching.


• Can squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed to fulfill resident care activities.


• Can cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Environmental Conditions

• Inside work with normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure, and potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.


• Requires exposure to stresses associated with an intimate, 24‑hour skilled care environment that primarily serves disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population, including emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired resident behavior, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen, federal officials, consultants, attorneys, and medical staff.

Qualifications

Education

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Licensure

Current, valid CNA certification issued by the Department of Health Services.

Current RNA certification.

Experience

Prior experience giving personal care to impaired individuals in a health care setting preferred.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in English.

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, including operations with weight and volume measurements.

Communication Skills

Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills, and be empathetic.

Must effectively communicate with patients, families, responsible parties, staff, and outside resources and agencies.
