Job summary

Pikes Peak Post Acute is seeking a Restorative Nursing Assistant to provide routine restorative care to residents in accordance with care plans. You will assist with mobility, transfers, and activities, while ensuring accurate documentation and reporting changes to nursing staff.

Ideal candidates have RNA/CNA certification, a high school diploma, and familiarity with Point Click Care. Prior long-term care experience is preferred, and CPR certification may be required.

Qualifications

  • Restorative Nursing Assistant certification and at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in computer data entry, ideally with Point Click Care.
  • One year of long-term care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with restorative exercises to improve or maintain mobility.
  • Encourage residents to participate in activity and out-of-bed mobility.
  • Assist with dining, transfers, ambulation, and ROM as directed.
  • Record resident weights and report significant changes promptly.
  • Maintain clean, well-fitting clothing and linens for residents.
  • Support personal hygiene and skin care.
  • Accurately document all care provided.
  • Maintain a warm, respectful, and calm therapeutic environment.

Job description

General Purpose

A Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) provides assigned residents with routine restorative nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, as directed by supervisor.

  • Assist residents with restorative exercises to improve or maintain mobility, strength, and functional independence.
  • Encourage resident participation in activity and out-of-bed mobility unless medically contraindicated.
  • Provide assistance with dining, splinting, transfers, ambulation, and active or passive range-of-motion activities as directed by rehabilitation and nursing department.
  • Obtain and accurately record resident weights as ordered or per facility protocol, and promptly report significant changes to nursing staff.
  • Ensure residents have clean, well-fitting clothing and linens that are in good repair.
  • Assist residents with toileting, bathing, dressing, and other activities of daily living as needed.
  • Reposition residents regularly to promote comfort and prevent skin integrity issues.
  • Support residents in maintaining personal cleanliness and freedom from offensive odors.
  • Participates in RNA meeting with the Rehabilitation and Nursing Departments to monitor prescribed programs.
  • Accurately complete documentation and charting of all care provided.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment characterized by warmth, positivity, respect, and calmness.
  • Promptly report any significant changes in condition, abnormal findings, or potential concerns to the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nursing, and/or Rehabilitation Department.
  • Assist residents in preparation for medical tests, treatments, appointments, social activities, and daily meals.
  • Provide assistance with elimination needs, including emptying catheter bags and properly sanitizing and maintaining bedpans, urinals, and bedside commodes.
  • Promote good personal hygiene, including skin care, bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, shaving or beard trimming, and nail care in accordance with facility policy.
  • Apply pressure-relieving devices and implement skin-protective measures to reduce the risk of breakdown.
Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And/or Experience

Restorative Nursing Assistant certification. High school diploma or equivalent. Proficient in computer skills such as inputting data into programs for Point Click Care. One-year experience in a long-term care facility preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read technical procedures. Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) Training. Employee must meet continuing education requirements per state practices. Must maintain a license in good standing at all times with the state board. Determine additional certification as appropriate per facility. CPR certification, if required by licensure.

Physical Demands

The essential functions of this position require the ability to stand and walk frequently and sit occasionally, as well as occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to provide patient care and operate equipment. The position requires the ability to reach, push, pull, lift, and manipulate objects and equipment, with exertion that may occasionally exceed 100 pounds, frequently exceed 50 pounds, or constantly exceed 20 pounds to safely move patients or equipment. Effective communication, including talking and hearing, is required to interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team. The ability to perceive and respond to environmental cues, including tactile, auditory, and visual information, is essential for safe and effective patient care. Other essential functions include assisting, supporting, and transporting patients in accordance with safe patient handling practices.
