Job summary

Rochester Fire Restoration is seeking a Fire & Water Restoration Technician to join our Mitigation team. You will respond to emergencies, assess scenes, and begin mitigation of fire, water, mold, or storm damage, documenting progress for customers and managers.

You’ll work under a project manager, operate drying and odor-control equipment, and help restore properties while maintaining safety and communication with clients. This is a full-time, non-exempt role with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• 1–3 yrs restoration or construction experience.
• IICRC certifications and NYS Mold Remediation Technician license preferred (or willing to obtain in 90 days).
• Able to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Comfortable working around water, sewage, mold, and contaminants with PPE.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls and perform restoration procedures after damage.
• Extract standing water and manage cleanup tasks.
• Demolition and removal of affected materials.
• Apply antimicrobial solution to surfaces and carpets.
• Operate drying equipment and disinfectants as needed.

Job Description

Position Title: Fire & Water Restoration Technician

Reports To: Director of Mitigation

Department: Mitigation

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Salary: $23–$28/hr. (based on experience & certifications)

Position Overview

As a member of our front-line first response team, you’ll respond to homes and businesses to mitigate property damage resulting from emergencies such as fire, flood, mold, or other damage. Under the direction of a project manager, you’ll quickly arrive at the scene, assess the situation, then get to work to mitigate the damage and clean up the mess. From there, you’ll continue to take the scene from chaos to calm, monitoring daily progress, documenting your work, and keeping the customer informed along the way, restoring their property and peace of mind.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls and perform property restoration procedures for residential or commercial properties after fire, water, mold, or storm damage following industry and company standards of care.


• Extract standing water, which may include Category 3 black water or sewage


• Demolition and removal of affected building materials


• Clean and apply antimicrobial solution to hard surface flooring, walls, and carpets


• Occasional cleaning of hard contents and furniture


• Occasional moving of large/heavy furniture


• Pack-out and inventory salvageable personal property for restoration


• Setup and operation of industrial-grade drying equipment, water extractors, including dehumidifiers, air movers, and electrical components


• Setup and operation of fire and odor-control equipment, including HEPA vacuums, air scrubbers, ozone generators, and other tools.


• Ensure complete and accurate documentation of damage, work progress, and equipment readings and monitoring using internal systems and procedures


• Maintain company vehicles and equipment inventory, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and job-ready at the end of each day


• Communicate with colleagues and managers regarding project updates, issues, or concerns


• Participate in an on-call rotation as scheduled


• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Comfortable working around water, sewage, mold, and contaminants (with PPE)

This position will require scheduled on-call shifts including evening/weekend hours to support emergency jobs. Employees will receive on-call bonuses and will be eligible for overtime pay for after-hours work exceeding 40 hours per week.

A clean driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
