Job description

This is hands-on, outdoor, on-the-water work. You’ll beat bags, move equipment, run gear to and from the boat, and trailer, launch, and load — in Florida heat, rain, critters, and bugs.

We’re looking for people who already know the water: fishermen, boat handlers, equipment operators, and anyone who can turn a wrench and fix what breaks. We’ll teach you the restoration side. You bring the work ethic, the comfort around the water, and the pride in doing it right.

The impact is real, and it lasts. The sites you prep, the shoreline you build, the scars you help heal — they’re still there years from now. This is work you can point to, in your own backyard, long after the day is done.

What You Do

  • Restoration Labor: Beat and set bags, plant seagrass, and install and maintain cages, anchors, and restoration structures.
  • Equipment & Materials: Load, unload, stage, and move equipment, materials, and tools between the yard, the trailer, and the site.
  • Boats & Trailers: Launch, load, and run boats; hook up, tow, and back trailers between the yard and the water.
  • On the Water: Handle lines, tie knots, and work safely around boats, barges, and heavy equipment.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Perform basic maintenance and field repairs — pumps, small engines, trailers, hand and power tools.
  • Gear Readiness: Keep gear clean, accounted for, and ready for the next day.
  • Safety: Follow safety procedures, wear your PPE, and speak up when something isn’t right.
  • Support the Team: Work alongside biologists, project managers, and technicians to get the job done.
  • Adapt to the Unexpected: Weather shifts, gear breaks, plans change — stay flexible and keep the day moving.
  • Grow Your Skills: Learn new tools, cross-train, and step into more responsibility over time.

Who You Are

  • Comfortable on the Water — You’ve been around boats, current, or open water. You can swim, you know how to tie a bowline (or you’re ready to learn one today), and you’d rather be out there than behind a desk.
  • Built for Florida Outdoors — Heat, humidity, rain, sun, mud, and mosquitoes. You know what a Florida summer feels like at two in the afternoon, and you keep going.
  • Ready to Work — You show up on time and prepared. You see what needs doing and start on it. When the day runs long, or conditions turn, you keep your head and keep moving.
  • Mechanically Inclined — You’re handy with tools and can get a pump, motor, or trailer back in service. Not required — but it will set you apart.
  • Safety-Minded — Safety isn’t a checklist you get through — it’s how you work. You stay aware of your surroundings and look out for the person next to you.
  • Solutions-Oriented — When something breaks, or plans change, you stay steady, explain what you’re seeing simply and directly, and help find the fix.
  • Coachable & Accountable — You take direction, ask questions, and own your work. There’s a trade to learn here, and a path to grow into.
  • Aligned with the S&S Way — You bring credibility, humility, grit, and practical knowledge — not ego.

Bonus Points

  • Boating, commercial fishing, or charter experience
  • Experience towing, backing, and maintaining trailers
  • Heavy equipment or machinery operation
  • Small engine, marine, diesel, or general mechanical repair experience
  • Welding, fabrication, landscaping, or construction experience
  • Florida Boating Safety Education ID card, TWIC card, OSHA 10, or First Aid/CPR

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to active project sites. The position may involve extended time on the road and may require early departures, overnight travel, or schedule flexibility based on operational needs. The essential physical demands of this role include:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment up to 50 pounds throughout the day (with assistance for heavier items)
  • Extended standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing in and out of boats, trailers, and trucks
  • Working on unstable surfaces — boats, barges, docks, and uneven or submerged terrain
  • Working in and around water, including wading
  • Working outdoors in heat, humidity, rain, sun, mud, and biting insects
  • Operating hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and trailers
  • A valid driver’s license is required. Comfort towing trailers and driving between project sites is strongly preferred.

Sea & Shoreline is committed to providing reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable laws to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this position.

What We Offer

  • Consistent work and hours
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO), holidays, and disability insurance.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
