SUMMARY

The Busser / Food Runner / Barback plays an essential role in creating a smooth, welcoming dining experience at Powder Cache Restaurant. Working across the dining room, kitchen, and bar, this position helps keep service moving by resetting tables, delivering food accurately and efficiently, maintaining well-stocked service areas, and anticipating the needs of servers, bartenders, and guests.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role for someone who enjoys being part of a team and takes pride in the details that make great service possible. As with every position at Grand Targhee Resort, this role serves as a Targhee ambassador by creating positive guest interactions and contributing to an exceptional mountain dining experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Dining Room & Table Maintenance (Bussing):
  • Clear dishes, glassware, and silverware promptly and discreetly between courses and after guests leave, helping maintain an attentive and polished dining experience.
  • Clean, sanitize, and reset tables efficiently according to Powder Cache service standards so they are ready for arriving guests and dining room flow remains smooth.
  • Maintain clean, organized side stations; polish glassware and flatware; and replenish dining room supplies throughout the shift.
• Food Delivery & Kitchen Coordination (Food Running):
  • Deliver hot and cold menu items from the kitchen to guest tables promptly and accurately, following seat numbers and service procedures.
  • Build a working knowledge of menu items, plate presentations, ingredients, and dietary considerations in order to accurately deliver dishes and respond to basic guest questions.
  • Support servers during busy service periods by assisting with water refills, bread service, clearing, and other guest needs.
  • Communicate clearly with servers and kitchen team members to help ensure food is delivered accurately, efficiently, and at the appropriate time.
• Bar Support Operations (Barbacking):
  • Keep bartenders supplied throughout service by replenishing ice, beer, wine, liquor, garnishes, glassware, and other bar supplies.
  • Clear and sanitize bar seating promptly, collect used glassware, and keep dirty barware moving efficiently through the dishwashing area.
  • Prepare basic bar support items such as fresh juices, citrus garnishes, and simple syrups according to department standards.
  • Monitor bar supplies throughout the shift and proactively restock items before shortages affect service.
• Service Standards & Team Support:
  • Follow Powder Cache service procedures and departmental Standard Operating Procedures reviewed during training and orientation.
  • Work collaboratively with servers, bartenders, hosts, culinary staff, and other team members to keep service organized and responsive during both routine and high-volume periods.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and guest-ready work areas throughout the shift.
  • Anticipate where support is needed and step in proactively to help the team deliver an efficient and welcoming guest experience.
  • Consistently support restaurant service, hospitality, cleanliness, guest-experience, and operational standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:

• Protect the safety of yourself, coworkers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
• Report potentially harmful equipment or unsafe conditions to your immediate supervisor without delay.
• Report safety-related accidents and incidents to your immediate supervisor promptly.
• Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures outlined in the Resort's Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and applicable department procedures or manuals.
• Operate equipment safely and in a manner that does not create a risk of injury to yourself or others.
• Drive in accordance with applicable law and Grand Targhee Resort policies when driving is required for the position.
• Follow applicable HACCP plans and departmental SOPs reviewed during onboarding and throughout the season.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE

Grand Targhee Resort operates seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. Work schedules and hours may vary based on business levels, and there is no guarantee of hours. Flexible scheduling may be required.

Due to high operational demand during the winter season, personal time-off and shift-off requests for the winter operating period must be submitted and approved prior to the start of the ski season.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant, hospitality, or guest service environment preferred, but not required.
• Experience with bussing, food running, barbacking, or upscale/casual fine dining service is a plus.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to accurately count and track table settings, glassware, supplies, and other restaurant inventory.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand basic instructions, order tickets, menu information, and food modification notes. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests, servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff and to ask questions or clarify information when needed.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, and adjust quickly as service needs change. Ability to anticipate the needs of servers, bartenders, and guests, use good judgment, and resolve routine service issues efficiently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works primarily indoors in a busy restaurant, kitchen, and bar environment. The position involves frequent movement between service areas and exposure to typical restaurant conditions, including heat, spills, wet or slippery surfaces, and moderate to loud noise levels during peak service periods. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outside winter weather conditions.
