SERVER

DEPARTMENT: Food and Beverage

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager

STATUS: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

If a station in the dining room is a symphony, the server is its conductor. Servers are responsible for leading and maintaining communication within the service team while being the primary presence at the table. They must delegate and prioritize quickly and effectively, taking control and ownership of each guest’s experience. A high level of emotional intelligence and empathy-driven service, combined with comprehensive knowledge of food, wine, and spirits, enables servers to deliver exceptional service.

Responsibilities
  1. Greet guests within 1 minute of seating.
  2. Guide guests through all aspects of the dining experience.
  3. Provide gracious, professional food and beverage service efficiently. Answer questions, suggestively sell, and create an upbeat atmosphere.
  4. Be knowledgeable of the menu, brands, prices, promotions, and specials.
  5. Take and accurately input guest orders into the POS system.
  6. Communicate allergy and dietary restriction information clearly on tickets.
  7. Retrieve and deliver food and beverages promptly.
  8. Replenish beverages and ensure guest satisfaction throughout the meal.
  9. Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with regulations.
  10. Clear plates at appropriate times, asking for assistance when needed.
  11. Crumb the table when appropriate during the meal.
  12. Keep the serving station well-stocked.
  13. Present the check, handle transactions, receive payment, and give accurate change.
  14. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of tables and bar, clear and reset tables.
  15. Thank guests sincerely and bid farewell.
  16. Respond graciously to guest service issues and report to management.
  17. Conduct oneself professionally, aware that actions and communications are visible to guests.
  18. Maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude to provide high-quality service.
  19. Additional tasks may be assigned or revised as needed by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Clear communication and composure under pressure.
  • Ability to move gracefully and quickly throughout the dining area.
  • Basic math, excellent reading, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Knowledge of menu ingredients, cooking techniques, drink recipes, and pricing.
  • Confidence in making food and beverage pairing recommendations and executing professional wine service.
  • Knowledge of pre-check register operation, computer systems, and sanitation standards.
  • Effective communication with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Experience

Previous bartending, serving, or customer service experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand and exert high energy for 4 or more hours; lift 15-30 pounds; move swiftly between dining and kitchen areas for extended periods.
