Position Summary

The Restaurant Server interacts with guests while following our service standards, takes guest orders and delivers food and beverages. This position ensures the quality of the food and that the overall guest experience is excellent. Also responsible for bussing and cleaning their own tables as well as all billing and payment processing.

This role will pay an hourly rate of $2.83, plus tips.

About the Venue

PPL Center is a state-of-the-art multipurpose arena in downtown Allentown, PA and home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The arena seats more than 10,000 for concerts and more than 8,500 for Lehigh Valley Phantoms professional hockey games, making it the region’s largest events venue.

The amenities-packed PPL Center hosts more than 150 events each year, offering something for everyone, including the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers, live concerts, family shows, trade shows, youth sports, high school and collegiate events, conferences, graduations, and so many more.

Chickie’s & Pete’s is a full-service bar and restaurant located within PPL Center, serving lunch Tuesday through Friday and open for events.

Responsibilities
  • Greet guests in a friendly professional manner
  • Provide education about Chickie’s style of service, the food and beverage menus, how menu items are prepared, the ingredients used and the different cooking methods.
  • Ensure menu, food preparation, and ingredient knowledge in order to address guests’ food allergy concerns and questions.
  • Smile and maintain a positive attitude at all times
  • Perform light food preparation duties when needed
  • Follow all Chickie’s & Pete’s service standards including up-selling
  • Inform guests of daily specials
  • Check food and beverages for quality and presentation, following menu builds, before serving
  • Serve food and beverages to guests
  • Check identification to ensure that guests meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Recognize signs of intoxication and handle alcohol-related situations effectively; keep management informed when situations arise regarding intoxicated guests/refusal of service
  • Provide food and drink recommendations to guests
  • Receive guest payments and process transactions
  • Sincerely thank all guests, make them aware of upcoming specials or events and invite them back for another visit soon
  • Clear, clean, and reset tables promptly according to proper sanitation standards
  • Ensure all condiments and napkin dispensers are clean and well stocked
  • Respond appropriately to guest complaints and bring any issues to the attention of management
  • Perform marketing and other promotional services as needed
  • Complete beginning, change, and end of shift side duties
  • Understand the importance of speed of service and act with sense of urgency when performing job tasks
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings
  • Additional tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must be 18 or over
  • 1 year or more experience serving in a fast-paced high volume environment
  • Previous cash handling experience preferred
  • Ability to learn to operate a cash register and corresponding system accurately
  • Possess valid food handling certificate and RAMP certification if required by state and federal regulations (or be willing to obtain one within a 60 day time-frame from date of hire)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a friendly, positive attitude with co-workers, management staff, volunteers and guests
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, some holidays, and long hours
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Must perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate strength including cleaning, climbing, lifting, walking, balancing and handling of materials. Must be able to stand for long periods of time
