Community Outreach & Communications Manager

OC Goes Solar | Irvine, California

Full-time | Hybrid remote | $30 per hour ($62,400 annual equivalent), plus benefits

Building clean-energy solutions begins with building strong, trusted relationships in the communities we serve.

OC Goes Solar (OCGS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is seeking an experienced and energetic Community Outreach & Communications Manager/Director to lead community engagement, communications, partnership development, and outreach for our Solarize–Electrify programs. For more than nine years, OCGS has helped residents navigate solar, battery storage, home electrification, and other clean‑energy options. We manage the City of Irvine’s Solarize–Electrify Irvine program and partner with public agencies, affordable‑housing organizations, educational institutions, contractors, and community‑based organizations to make clean energy more accessible, affordable, and equitable—especially for low‑income and underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Develop and implement outreach, communications, and community‑engagement strategies.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local governments, community organizations, schools and colleges, businesses, utilities, workforce agencies, and industry partners.
  • Plan and lead workshops, presentations, community meetings, tabling events, and other educational activities.
  • Represent OCGS at conferences, public meetings, career fairs, and community events.
  • Create clear, engaging content for newsletters, social media, presentations, outreach materials, and the OCGS website.
  • Coordinate program activities, timelines, budgets, partners, and team workflows.
  • Track participation, partnerships, and program outcomes; prepare accurate and timely reports.
  • Gather community feedback, identify emerging needs, and recommend opportunities to expand OCGS programs and impact.
  • Help residents and community partners connect with trusted clean‑energy information, programs, incentives, and resources.
Qualifications
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience in community outreach, communications, public relations, partnership development, project management, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships across diverse communities and sectors.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, project‑management, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with a small team.
  • Cultural competency and a commitment to serving low‑income, underserved, and historically marginalized communities.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and familiarity with Canva, Wordpress, social media and CRM platforms, particularly Salesforce.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to meetings and events throughout Orange County and, periodically, Southern California.
Preferred
  • Experience in clean energy, sustainability, environmental education, local government, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge of solar energy, battery storage, home electrification, energy efficiency, or related topics.
  • Experience with Salesforce, data visualization, email marketing, or website content development or management.
  • Leadership experience for candidates seeking consideration at the manager level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, sustainability, public administration, community development, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.

Clean‑energy expertise is helpful but not required. A strong commitment to our mission, excellent people skills, creativity, initiative, and a willingness to learn are equally important.

Work Location and Schedule

This is a full‑time, nonexempt position based in Orange County. Work is primarily remote, with required in‑person meetings, workshops, community events, and partner activities in Irvine and throughout the region. Some evening and weekend availability is required.

Compensation and Benefits
  • $30 per hour, 40 hours per week

  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Flexible hybrid‑remote work environment
  • Professional growth and leadership opportunities
