Qualifications

  • At least one year of verifiable experience as a home health aide, caregiver, nursing assistant or other care professional.
  • May be required to have a Florida driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Experience working with developmentally disabled population is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Confirms assignments with family 2-3 days, and 2 hours prior to Respite visit; notifies Coordinator of Respite services of changes or cancellations.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment; reports incidents immediately in life-threatening situations.
  • Reports abuse or suspected abuse to the Abuse Registry and to Supervisor.
  • Assists and cares for children in daily living activities: meals, feeding, dressing, toileting and bathing.
  • Engages child in developmentally appropriate activities and monitors seizures, injuries, or accidents.
  • Communicates with parents about child’s needs prior to leaving home; assists with prescribed medications with parental consent.
  • Uses appropriate lifting techniques and equipment; follows safety protocols.
  • Completes Respite chronicle and timesheet; administers pre & post testing as required.
  • Pursues professional development opportunities and attends trainings/recertifications.

Areas of Responsibility:Individual CareConfirms assignments with family 2-3 days, as well as 2 hours prior to Respite visit and notifies Coordinator of Respite Services immediately of any changes or Respite assignment cancellations.Uses safe and sound judgement while caring for Respite participants and maintains a clean safe environment at all times and reports incidents to appropriate people immediately in the event of a serious or life threatening situation.Reports abuse or suspected abuse of participants to the Abuse Registry and to Supervisor.Assist and care for children in exercising maximum independence in daily living skills. Provide necessary meals and assist children in feeding, dressing, toileting and bathing.Engage and interact with child in developmentally appropriate activities.Responds appropriately when seizures, injury or accidents occurs.Converses with parents about child’s special needs prior to them leaving home (manual, emergency numbers, medication form and administers/assists child while taking prescribed medication with parental consent).Uses appropriate lifting techniques at all times; wears lifting belt and uses Hoya Lift with assistance from other staff.Recording and RecordkeepingCompletes detailed Respite chronicle and returns in timely manner with timesheet.Administer all required pre & post testing.Records seizures on seizure sheet accurately.Performs other duties as assigned.Training and DevelopmentParticipates in training and in-services when offered/required; Obtains re-certifications as necessary.Pursues professional growth by making use of professional development opportunities that would enhance Ann Storck Center’s programs.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience working with developmentally disabled population is a plus.At least one year of verifiable experience as a home health aide, caregiver, nursing assistant or other care professional; experience working with challenging behaviors, preferred.May be required to have a Florida driver’s license and good driving record.WORKING CONDITIONS: Primary duties are in a home environment with moderate noise levels.
