Summary

Respite Partners are intermittent support staff that are compassionate and dedicated to offering temporary relief and support to primary caregivers. The population served are families caring for individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other special needs. The Respite Partners will ensure the safety and well-being of individuals while engaging them in meaningful activities. Respite Partners work directly within the family home or in their own home as part of the Family and Community Supports department.

Essential Job Functions
  • To provide direct care and supervision to individuals to allow participation in normative home based and community-based activities.
  • Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
  • Engage individuals in recreational and social activities to promote their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor and document individual’s health and behavior, reporting changes to primary caregiver and supervisor.
  • Complete necessary documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals where they can utilize strengths and improve on needed skills.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and other care team members.
  • Role model appropriate social communication and actions in all settings.
  • Support the consistency of the family / home routine by assisting the individual with appropriate participation.
  • Follow individualized care plans and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma; additional training or certification in caregiving a plus.
  • Previous experience in caregiving, healthcare, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and quickly to health, safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problem solving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, care and support plans and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.

Must be able to speak effectively to persons with developmental disabilities and communicate with families in a caring and clear manner.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be physically able to assist with daily living needs, including lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be physically able to walk and/or run 100 yards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions when traveling. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Travel

If transportation of individual is required, Incompass does not provide additional insurance / liability coverage. It is recommended that the family transport to community locations as needed. If staff person does transport, their own personal insurance covers the vehicle, and those passengers included. The driver must be at least 18 years of age and have own personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
