Job summary

Ohel Children's Home and Family Service is seeking creative and responsible Respite Counselors to work one-on-one with youth who have mental health challenges or are medically fragile and live at home in the community. The role focuses on short-term support to strengthen family functioning and youth health care needs.

Flexible part-time after-school hours available across Brooklyn, Queens, Far Rockaway and Long Island.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional with a high school diploma or GED and appropriate skills.
• Experience working with children/youth, especially those with special needs, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one respite counseling to youth in home or community settings.
• Support youth’s developmental, behavioral health, and healthcare goals.
• Collaborate with families and service providers to plan activities.

Ohel is looking for Respite Counselorswho are creative, dedicated, and responsible to work one-on-one with youth who have mental health challenges or who are medically fragile and live at home in the community. Respite focuses on short-term assistance provided to youth, to enhance the family’s ability to support the youth’s functional, developmental, behavioral health, and/or health care needs.

Requirements:

• Paraprofessionals with a high school diploma or GED and with appropriate skills and training.
• Experience working with children/youth (preference given to those with experience working with children/youth with special needs)

Valid NY or NJ Driver’s license preferred. Good English communication skills a must. Flexible part time, after school hours. Locations include Brooklyn, Queens, Far Rockaway and Long Island.

Salary: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
