The Respiratory Therapy Team Lead coordinates and supervises the delivery of Respiratory Care services. Acts as a resource person to the Respiratory Therapy staff. Provides quality respiratory care through the application of the patient care process and according to the established standards and duties of Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners in the State of New Jersey. Provides on call hours as needed.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Respiratory Therapy Team Lead at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

1. Respiratory Care Practitioner responsibilities which include but are not limited to: assessment, education and acute and chronic care of patients with cardio-pulmonary diseases. Core responsibilities include patient assessment and education, medication delivery, oxygen therapy, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis and ventilator management of patients of all ages. Performs all other duties as assigned.2. Assists in leading patient advocacy efforts for pulmonary services and interventions and their relationships to care levels and length of stay. Investigates needs, problems and complaints and recommends interventions and corrections.3. Plans for and prepares the staffing schedule and manages staffing variances. Each staffing schedule is prepared as per the annual time bank policy and procedure and is posted as scheduled. Marks and initials all schedule changes on the primary schedule in the staff room. Maintains treatment schedules through the use of the crystal list and meeting with therapists, nurses and physicians. Insures that shift reports are done on time and are complete and accurate. Reviews and divides the workload to effectively accomplish required tasks. Monitors workload to assure prompt and efficient completion.4. Orients new employees to the department and nursing units by the use of tours, departmental orientation materials and policies and procedures. Evaluates work performance of personnel. Coaches and motivates their performance. Completes annual and other reviews. Makes recommendations concerning personnel discipline problems to the department director. Utilizes available resource personnel to assist in the training and orientation of new staff. Acts as a resource person to the department and hospital personnel by utilizing problem solving techniques and understanding and evaluating all phases of respiratory procedures and hospital policies proficiently.5. Collects, manages and presents information within the required time frames and in the required format.6. Maintains appropriate staffing levels. Rents equipment as needed. Has equipment repaired as needed. Maintains equipment and supply levels as needed.7. Reviews ABG controls at least Q48 hours. Reviews and reports on the monthly ABG control performance. Analyzes CAP unknowns as requested. Maintains the ABG analyzers.8. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.9. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy2. Minimum of 5 years adult critical care experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Minimum of 5 years adult critical care experience. 2. Minimum of 2 years of acute care or ventilator weaning unit supervisory experience3. Minimum of 2 years pediatric experience4. Minimum of 2 years experience using the AVEA ventilator5. Minimum of 2 years experience using arterial blood gas analyzing equipment

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner License. 2. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification. 3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
