Job summary

UofL Health is hiring an Intern, Respiratory Care at Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, KY. This part-time internship provides hands-on experience under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist, serving pediatric to geriatric patients.

Responsibilities include administering oxygen and humidity therapy, aerosols, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, ECGs, CPR support, and equipment reprocessing, plus patient and family education in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• Must have completed one year of accredited respiratory therapy program with GPA ≥2.0.
• The intern shall remain in good standing with GPA ≥2.0.
• Clinical rotation experience through educational program preferred.
• Limited Mandatory Certificate (license) issued by the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision of a Respiratory Therapist, provide patient care as allowed by student license.
• Administers oxygen therapy and humidity therapy, aerosols, and incentive spirometry.
• Administers bronchial hygiene and chest physiotherapy per protocol.
• Performs CPR and assists during resuscitation attempts and rapid response calls.
• Performs ECG (electrocardiogram) and reprocesses respiratory therapy equipment.
• Provides education to patients, families, staff, and physicians; ensures HIPAA compliance.
