MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a PRN Respiratory Equipment Technician to install, calibrate, inspect, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair departmental equipment across the hospital. The role involves working with respiratory ventilators and related medical devices and answering questions about their use.

The position is PRN with various shifts, ideal for a student in a Respiratory Therapy program who can support Biomedical Engineering and Facilities

Qualifications

• 1–3 years hospital equipment experience.
• CPR certification within 90 days.
• Specialized and/or advanced clerical or technical training.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and performance testing on departmental clinical/medical/patient care systems and devices including electronic instruments/devices.
• Performs routine repairs on departmental clinical/medical equipment (e.g., broken flowmeter and high-pressure hoses); refer complex repairs to Biomedical Engineering.
• Receives and documents newly acquired equipment prior to installation.
• Confers with Facilities Management concerning alterations to medical gas systems and checks oxygen system for purity after construction or alteration.
• Demonstrates proper assembly of high-frequency and specialty ventilators to staff.
• Periodically reviews and updates equipment inventory and reorders stock.

About the Job

General Summary of Position
Responsible for the installation calibration inspection preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repair of departmental equipment including a variety of respiratory ventilators and related medical equipment throughout the hospital. Answers questions regarding the equipment its usage and documents activities.

PRN Respiratory Equipment Technician - Various shifts available. Ideal for a student in a Respiratory Therapy program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and performance testing on departmental clinical/ medical/patient care systems and devices including electronic instruments/devices. Documents activities.
• Performs routine repairs on departmental clinical/medical equipment e.g.: broken flowmeter and replacement of high pressure hoses. Refers more complex repairs to Biomedical Engineering. May transport equipment to and from Biomedical Engineering.
• Receives and documents newly acquired equipment prior to installation.
• Confers with Facilities Management concerning any alteration(s) to the medical gas systems. Purges and checks the oxygen system for purity following any construction/ alteration.
• Demonstrates proper assembly of the high frequency and specialty ventilators to departmental and ICU medical staff.
• Periodically reviews and updates departmental equipment inventory listings maintaining an inventory of stock replacement assemblies. Reorders as necessary.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED plus specialized and/or advanced clerical technical or other vocational training acquired during 1 - 2 years of additional job-related training required

Experience

• 1 to 3 years experience which may include an internship and/or previous hospital/ medical equipment experience required

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• May require the use of specialized medical equipment (i.e. EEG EKG blood analyzer) or data processing equipment (i.e. tape drives consoles) and/or training/use with adult and pediatric ventilators.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $20.57 - USD $36.27 /Hr.
