Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a PRN Respiratory Equipment Technician to support installation, calibration, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of respiratory and related medical equipment across the hospital. The role is ideal for a student in a Respiratory Therapy program and involves various shifts.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, minor repairs, equipment documentation, stock inventory management and collaboration with Facilities Management on gas systems.

• High School Diploma or GED with 1-2 years of related training.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and testing on clinical/medical equipment; document activities.
• Carry out routine repairs and refer complex issues to Biomedical Engineering; transport equipment as needed.
• Receive and document newly acquired equipment prior to installation.
• Coordinate with Facilities Management on alterations to medical gas systems; purging and checking oxygen purity.
• Demonstrate assembly of high-frequency and specialty ventilators to staff.
• Maintain and update departmental equipment inventory and reorder stock as required.

General Summary of Position

Responsible for the installation calibration inspection preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repair of departmental equipment including a variety of respiratory ventilators and related medical equipment throughout the hospital. Answers questions regarding the equipment its usage and documents activities.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and performance testing on departmental clinical/ medical/patient care systems and devices including electronic instruments/devices. Documents activities.
• Performs routine repairs on departmental clinical/medical equipment e.g.: broken flowmeter and replacement of high pressure hoses. Refers more complex repairs to Biomedical Engineering. May transport equipment to and from Biomedical Engineering.
• Receives and documents newly acquired equipment prior to installation.
• Confers with Facilities Management concerning any alteration(s) to the medical gas systems. Purges and checks the oxygen system for purity following any construction/ alteration.
• Demonstrates proper assembly of the high frequency and specialty ventilators to departmental and ICU medical staff.
• Periodically reviews and updates departmental equipment inventory listings maintaining an inventory of stock replacement assemblies. Reorders as necessary.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED plus specialized and/or advanced clerical technical or other vocational training acquired during 1 - 2 years of additional job-related training required

Experience

• 1 to 3 years experience which may include an internship and/or previous hospital/ medical equipment experience required

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities

• May require the use of specialized medical equipment (i.e. EEG EKG blood analyzer) or data processing equipment (i.e. tape drives consoles) and/or training/use with adult and pediatric ventilators.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $20.57 - USD $36.27 /Hr.
