Job summary

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant provides operational and patient care support to the Respiratory Care Department under the direction of licensed Respiratory Therapists. The Respiratory Therapy Assistant supports respiratory services by preparing equipment, assisting with patient transport, stocking supplies, performing non-licensed patient care activities, and ensuring the readiness of respiratory equipment throughout the hospital.

Qualifications: Minimum Position Requirements:

Work Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Hospital experience is preferred
• Experience working in emergency medical services, healthcare, or patient care environments.

License/Registration/Certification:

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) Preferred.

Education and Training:

• Current Texas EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic certification (or state equivalent).

Skills:

• Knowledge of basic respiratory anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment safely.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced acute care environment.
• Basic computer skills and electronic medical record proficiency.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and promptly notify licensed staff.
